Job description

Middle School/Prep School Instrumental Music Instructor (Band)
Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School is seeking a full-time, middle school/prep school instrumental music instructor to teach a combination of individual and small group lessons, co-direct the Middle School Band, and support the Prep School Band program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Co-direct the Middle School Band program (Grades 6-8), serving as a strategic partner in curriculum planning, rehearsal management, and instructional delivery
  • Provide secondary support to the Prep School Band program (Grades 9-12), assisting the lead teacher with rehearsals, sectionals, and individual student coaching
  • Teach individual and small group lessons across all standard concert band instruments, including Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium, and Orchestral Percussion
  • Participate in the planning and execution of concerts, music festivals, and in-school performances for both divisions
  • Collaborate with other band teachers to manage instrument inventory, equipment storage and maintenance, and the scheduling of lessons.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, grade-level meetings and department meetings with performing arts department colleagues
  • Other duties as assigned by the division director

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in music education
  • Prior experience working with instrumental students in a large ensemble program
  • Strong personal musicianship skills, with a brass primary instrument preferred
  • Demonstrates the ability to develop and adapt pedagogy, curriculum, and assessments for students with a range of skill levels and learning styles
  • Dynamic, creative, and growth-oriented
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills

COMPENSATION:
The salary range for this position is $60,000- $90,000 annually. We also offer a warm and supportive culture as well as exceptional benefits including but not limited to:
