Laboratory Technician is focused on assisting the team with essential laboratory operations. The primary responsibility of this role is to accurately homogenize and weigh samples, under the direction of the Sample Coordinator, and according to tests specifications outlined in the Master Weighing and Homogenization Guide. Working closely with Chemists and the Team Lead, the Laboratory Technician supports day-to-day sample preparation tasks and ensure samples are weighed precisely for analysis. In addition to sample weighing, the position will learn and familiarize themselves with basic laboratory equipment and processes, such as handling glassware, pipettes, and solvents. In this role, the Laboratory Technician will also gain exposure to instrumentation and other analytical tools under the guidance of more experienced team members. Lastly, this role assists in maintaining lab organization and cleanliness, ensuring compliance with 
laboratory standards. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

• Bachelor's Degree

• Good written and verbal communication skills. 

• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.  

• Excellent attention to detail. 

• Ability to organize work and maintain workflow with minimal direction. 

• Ability to work independently or in a team

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Good organizational skills and ability to follow directions from multiple sources.  

• Familiarity with quality procedures. 

• Familiarity with general laboratory equipment and procedures. 

• Experience with common laboratory tools (balances, pipettors, syringes, etc). 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  

• Standing for long periods of time is necessary regularly. 

• Working with various allergens, organic solvents, chemical analytes, reagents, acids, and bases is necessary. 

• Safety glasses must be worn at all times in lab areas. Adequate PPE required (lab coats, gloves as applicable). 

• No colognes or other strongly scented personal care products are to be worn in the lab. 

Sample Preparation:

Perform homogenization of various sample matrices to ensure uniformity for accurate analysis. 

Precisely weigh samples according to testing requirements, ensuring consistency in sample preparation methods. 

Under the direction of chemists, assist in preparing samples for analysis, following SOPs to meet testing specifications. 

Organize and label samples efficiently, ensuring that all samples are properly identified and stored before and after testing. 

Communicate with the team to prioritize sample preparation and retests based on project deadlines or testing schedules. 

Assist in Data Collection: 

Input and track sample data in the LIMS, ensuring accurate and timely documentation of samples. 

Help collect raw data for runs and become familiar with the basic structure of analytical data output. 

Gain familiarity with data handling processes and the importance of maintaining data integrity in compliance with laboratory standards. 

Instrument Operation & Maintenance: 

Document the weights of each sample to ensure traceability and consistency in lab records. 

Perform maintenance and daily calibration instruments and other team relevant equipment. 

Participate in processing samples and ensure that test results are accurately recorded on the data sheets. 

Learn to perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning, changing filters, and checking gas and pump oil levels under the 

guidance of chemists. 

Gain exposure to operating the instruments, learning how to set up runs and ensure proper functioning during analysis. 

Begin learning basic troubleshooting techniques for minor instrument issues, working alongside chemists to resolve common 

operational challenges. 

SECONDARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Cleaning Tasks & Lab Upkeep: 

Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation with routine cleaning of the team workspace and instruments. 

Complete other assigned daily and weekly cleaning tasks. 

Contribute to department sample disposal efforts. 

Inventory & Equipment Management: 

Assist with monitoring and auditing the stock levels of reagents, consumables and instrument parts for analysis, ensuring availability.

Assist with routine pipette and dispensette checks. 

Collaboration & Support:

Work closely with the Team Advocate, Sample Coordinator, and other team members to complete projects and/other lab activities. 

Under the supervision of chemists, gain exposure to methods and instrumentation related to testing. 

Provide input on potential process improvements and contribute to team discussions on optimization and efficiency. 

Perform additional duties as the position develops or as instructed by advocates or laboratory management
