When you add that to the challenges we take on and solve together, you'll discover that at HARMAN you can grow, make a difference and be proud of the work you do every day.
About the Role:
We are seeking a seasoned UI/UX Design Manager to lead a team of designers for the user experience of our connected audio products. In this role, you will drive the design process from concept through developer handoff, ensuring our user interfaces deliver an intuitive, engaging, and visually appealing experience for our global customer base.
While your primary focus will be on designing and managing user interfaces for our iOS and Android mobile apps, you will also contribute to creating innovative interfaces for a diverse range of products across our audio portfolio. This includes AVRs, Hi-Fi devices, headphones, and Bluetooth speakers. Your work will shape how our customers set up, interact with, control, and enjoy music both at home and on the go.
What You Will Do
  • Manage the team and lead the UI/UX design process from initial concept to developer hand-off.
  • Create high-fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes to communicate ideas effectively.
  • Conduct moderated and unmoderated user testing to evaluate and refine design choices.
  • Ensure designs meet platform-specific guidelines (Apple Human Interface Guidelines, Google Material Design).
  • Collaborate closely with UX designers, product managers, and engineers.
  • Mentor junior designers and provide design feedback to maintain quality across the team.
  • Conduct design reviews and advocate for best practices in UX design.
  • Stay up to date on emerging design trends, prototyping techniques, and mobile UI patterns
  • Understand the whole picture and complexity of the project and simplify the complexity into logical wireframes or user flows.

What You Need
  • 6+ years of professional experience designing consumer iOS and Android applications.
  • 4+ years of direct people management experience.
  • Proven track record of delivering world-class mobile UI designs for a global user base.
  • Expert proficiency in Figma for design, wireframes, and collaboration.
  • Proficiency with ProtoPie, Overflow, and Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects).
  • Basic understanding of typography, color theory, layout principles, and interaction design.
  • Experience conducting moderated and unmoderated user testing
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to present design rationale to stakeholders.
  • Experience with audio products or connected devices is a plus.

What is Nice to Have
  • Experience designing mobile apps that connect to networked hardware.
  • Experience creating Lottie animations using Bodymovin and After Effects.
  • Knowledge of accessibility guidelines for mobile platforms.
  • Basic familiarity with front-end implementation constraints of iOS and Android platforms.

What Makes You Eligible
  • Willingness to travel 10% of the time domestically and internationally.
  • Willingness to work in either the Owings Mills, MD, or Carlsbad, CA office (hybrid option available; flexibility to come into the office on short notice when needed is appreciated).
  • Due to the nature of global infrastructure, you understand that flexibility in working hours is required.
  • Successfully complete background investigation and drug screen as a condition of employment.

What We Offer
  • Competitive wellness benefits and 401K Retirement Savings plan.
  • An inclusive and diverse work environment that fosters and encourages career development opportunities.
  • Flexible work schedule with a culture encouraging work-life integration and collaboration in a global environment.
  • Professional development opportunities through HARMAN University's business and leadership academies and extensive course catalog.
