General Summary:The Director, Enterprise Career Development plays a pivotal role in shaping and implementing comprehensive career development strategies tailored to meet the diverse needs of Unum's workforce. This key position involves creating and executing initiatives that empower employees to achieve their professional goals within the organization. The Director will be responsible for identifying and leveraging opportunities for career programs, resources, and tools to ensure that Unum remains a supportive an inclusive workplace where individuals can thrive in their careers.
This role partners closely with People & Communications and business leaders to translate talent strategy, talent insights, and workforce capability needs into scalable career development, internal mobility, leadership pipeline, and manager enablement solutions. The Director uses skills data, talent insights, and business priorities to shape career development resources, mobility strategies, and development experiences that help employees build future critical capabilities, support manager-led talent development, and strengthen enterprise talent pipelines.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement enterprise-wide career development strategies aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Manage a team of highly skilled learning professionals.
  • Collaborate with P&C, leadership, and other departments to identify key career and talent development needs aligned to Unum's competencies.
  • Design and execute programs that support employee competencies and career growth.
  • Establish metrics and key performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of career development initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees in navigating career paths within the organization.
  • Stay informed about industry best practices and trends in career development and incorporate relevant strategies.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the organization.
  • Creates, supports, and maintains an environment of belonging and inclusion with a commitment to ensuring strong diversity of thought and experience within the team
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external partners to enhance career development opportunities.
  • Partner across People & Communications, Talent & Inclusion, People Analytics, and business leaders to translate enterprise capability priorities, talent insights, skills data, and workforce trends into scalable career development, internal mobility, leadership pipeline, and manager enablement solutions that drive measurable business impact.

Job Specifications

  • Bachelor's degree, advance degree preferred.
  • 8-10 years' experience in the field of HR/L&D, with a strong knowledge of all P&C functions as key business levers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills related to managing a team, building partnerships, and providing strong coaching and consultative services.
  • Demonstrated success as an internal consultant.
  • Innovative - outside in focus; able to think and create new approaches.

$89,900.00-$169,900.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not.
