About the Role

Kitsap Credit Union is searching for a Director, Learning & Development to work hybrid out of our Bremerton office. The Director, Learning & Development owns the enterprise learning ecosystem, including leadership development, retail capability building, and future-ready skill development. This role ensures a cohesive, skills-based learning culture that enables employees to build critical capabilities, adapt to change, and drive organizational performance. This role shifts the learning function from program delivery to a strategic driver of workforce capability, leadership effectiveness, and future-ready skills.

This role works across all departments ensuring we have a culture of learning and is incorporating the Credit Union’s core values, operating principles, and business strategies to support employees in their performance to effectively and professionally meet members’ needs.  This position analyzes organizational needs for development, aligns L&D activities with Credit Union strategy, and delivers Credit Union-wide learning and development initiatives that drive KCU’s growth strategies.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Leads enterprise-wide capability planning, partnering with business leaders to identify current and future skill gaps, define workforce capability needs, and implement scalable learning strategies that drive organizational performance and readiness.
  • Owns the design and execution of enterprise learning initiatives, ensuring integrated development experiences across all employee levels that support career progression, leadership readiness, and long-term organizational growth.
  • Leads strategic communication and engagement efforts for learning and development, building strong cross-functional partnerships and ensuring alignment across stakeholders. Drives awareness and adoption of learning initiatives while collaborating with subject matter experts to ensure content is relevant, high-quality, and aligned to business needs.
  • Provides strategic leadership on cross-functional initiatives, ensuring workforce readiness for new products, services, and processes by embedding learning solutions that enable successful adoption, performance, and change.
  • Partners with Human Resources and business leaders to drive organizational performance, aligning learning strategies with talent management, culture initiatives, and change efforts to strengthen overall workforce effectiveness.
  • Defines and governs the learning experience strategy, leveraging modern adult learning practices and blended approaches to create scalable, engaging, and impactful development experiences across modalities.
  • Establishes enterprise standards for learning programs, ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment with organizational priorities, while continuously evolving offerings to meet changing workforce and business needs.
  • Leads the design and continuous improvement of learning experiences, providing guidance and coaching to L&D team members and facilitators to ensure high-quality, effective delivery across in-person, virtual, and blended environments.
  • Owns vendor strategy and partnerships, including selection, contracting, and performance management of external providers, ensuring alignment with learning objectives and organizational standards.
  • Continuously evaluates and advances learning tools, resources, and technologies, ensuring the learning ecosystem supports scalability, accessibility, and future-ready workforce capabilities.
  • Leads the enterprise measurement strategy for learning effectiveness, using data, observations, assessments, and feedback to evaluate impact, drive continuous improvement, and inform strategic decisions.
  • Synthesizes learner and stakeholder feedback into actionable insights, using data to refine learning programs, strengthen capability development, and enhance overall effectiveness.
  • Ensures governance and compliance of learning programs, including training records, regulatory requirements, and internal standards, while maintaining operational excellence.
  • Develops and delivers executive-level reporting and dashboards, providing data-driven insights on workforce capability, learning impact, and organizational readiness.
  • Leads and develops the Learning & Development team, setting clear expectations, driving performance, and building team capability through coaching, engagement, and strategic direction.
  • Owns the enterprise learning investment strategy, including budget planning, prioritization, and resource allocation to maximize impact and align with organizational goals.
  • Oversees the enterprise learning calendar, ensuring strategic alignment, prioritization, and effective delivery of learning experiences across the organization.
  • Maintains expertise in regulatory requirements and industry trends, ensuring learning strategies remain compliant and aligned with evolving expectations.
  • Leads the development and execution of the L&D strategic plan, ensuring learning initiatives directly support and advance organizational priorities and long-term business strategy.

      Qualifications and Education Requirements

      • Bachelors’ degree in Organizational Development, Business, Education, or a related field, or equivalent, required.
      • Minimum of eight years of related work experience required.
      • Minimum of five years of previous management experience. 

      Required Experience 

      • Progressive experience in Learning & Development, Organizational Development, or Talent Development, with demonstrated success leading enterprise or large-scale learning initiatives.
      • Experience translating business strategy into workforce capability strategies, including leadership development, skill-building, and performance enablement.
      • Proven ability to partner with senior leaders to influence organizational priorities and drive workforce readiness.
      • Experience leading and developing high-performing teams, including setting direction, coaching, and driving accountability
      • Strong experience in program strategy, design, and execution across multiple learning modalities (e.g., instructor-led, virtual, digital, blended).
      • Demonstrated ability to measure learning effectiveness and connect outcomes to business performance.
      • Experience working in complex, cross-functional environments with the ability to balance enterprise consistency and business-specific needs.

      Preferred Experience 

      • Experience leading an enterprise-wide Learning & Development function or team, with accountability for strategy, delivery, and outcomes across multiple business units.
      • Experience leading learning and capability initiatives for both frontline (e.g., Retail, Contact Center) and back-office functions, ensuring alignment between customer-facing and operational roles.
      • Experience building or advancing skills-based learning models, including capability frameworks, career pathways, or skill-based progression.
      • Experience designing and leading leadership development programs across multiple levels (frontline leaders through senior leadership).
      • Experience with modern learning technologies (LMS, LXP, or skills platforms) and evolving digital learning strategies.
      • Experience in financial services, credit unions, or similarly regulated industries.
