Job description

OVERVIEW

The Program Assistant will work with various team members in the Refugee Services Department. Assisting the team and cases by assessing client needs, assisting in the development and implementation of service plans, recommending, and obtaining needed services, gathering information necessary for case managers to assist clients in obtaining support that will ensure their self-sufficiency. This may include assisting with various administrative tasks, as well as direct services provided to USCRI’s clients. The successful candidate must be committed to immigration and human rights issues and be able to conduct advocacy, education, and other outreach activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Helping coordinate initial housing placement in partnership with team members, including: researching and securing apartments, securing furniture and household goods, coordinating truck and volunteers for housing set-up, and ordering and ensuring utilities are turned on;
  • Assist case managers with picking up new clients at the airport on time and coordinating transportation to client housing; gathering their luggage and travel documents;
  • Conduct home safety training;
  • Support clients with housing transitions, challenges, and crises, including landlord mediation and emergency financial assistance.
  • Assist Case Mangers with file maintenance by updating case management systems, reporting databases, and physical files; maintain confidentiality of information
  • Communicate client needs to case managers and assisting with timely deliver of servicers;
  • Collaborate with case manager and other staff personnel to confirm appropriate services are in place;
  • Helping deliver culturally and linguistically appropriate supports; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Bilingual/multilingual ability is strongly preferred;
  • Must have a valid driver's license, insurance, clean driving record and personal transportation;
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint) and database programs a plus;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to organize, prioritize, and work independently as well as in collaboration with others is required;
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with providers, vendors, and clients of diverse backgrounds;
  • Must have dedication to human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and displaced people; and
  • Good sense of humor and pleasant, diplomatic manner is desired.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
