Senior Director of Learning Strategy and Operations
Position Summary:
The New York Botanical Garden is seeking an organized, dependable, and mission-driven Learning and Development Coordinator to support staff learning and professional development across the Garden.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Learning Strategy and Operations, this role helps coordinate training programs, onboarding activities, workshops, learning materials, and related projects. The coordinator supports the day-to-day work that helps learning programs run smoothly, including scheduling, communications, materials preparation, tracking, documentation, and follow-up.
This role is a good fit for someone with strong coordination skills, clear communication, sound judgment, and an interest in helping staff learn and grow in a mission-based organization.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate logistics for trainings, workshops, and learning programs, including scheduling, registration, room setup, technology, materials, and participant communication
  • Support onboarding and orientation activities by helping manage calendars, materials, and coordination across departments
  • Maintain project trackers, timelines, files, and shared learning resources
  • Assist with the development and editing of presentations, handouts, guides, and other training materials
  • Track attendance, feedback, and follow-up items for learning programs
  • Help prepare surveys, interview guides, and focus group materials used to gather staff feedback and assess learning needs
  • Organize notes, responses, and other information to support reporting and planning
  • Assist with summarizing findings and preparing slides, documents, and other materials for internal use
  • Support digital learning efforts, including online resources, microlearning, and basic staff technology upskilling
  • Communicate professionally with staff and partners across the organization
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in learning and development, education, human resources, communications, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in program coordination, training support, learning and development, education, HR, or a related area
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with consistency and care
  • Ability to work professionally with sensitive or confidential information
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams
  • Experience supporting training, workshops, onboarding, or staff programs preferred
  • Experience in a nonprofit, cultural, educational, or mission-driven organization preferred
  • Interest in workplace learning, staff development, and digital tools preferred
  • Driver's license preferred

Physical Demands & Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, speak, hear, and use a computer and standard office equipment for extended periods. The employee may also be required to walk between locations across NYBG's campus, stand for meetings or program support, and occasionally lift or move materials weighing up to 15 pounds.
This role works primarily in an office, classroom, and meeting environment, with occasional work in public or event spaces across the Garden. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

Baseline Work Schedule:
21 hours per week, generally across 3 business days, with occasional flexibility to support scheduled programs, meetings, or events.
Payrate: $30 per hour
