The Learning Spaces Technical Associate supports a high-quality, seamless, and reliable technology experience across technology-enabled learning environments. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with a collaborative and proactive approach to help ensure the operational readiness and performance of AV and instructional technology systems.
The Learning Spaces Technical Associate provides in-person and remote technical assistance, supports instructional and institutional events, contributes to user training efforts, and maintains accurate technical documentation. This position participates in the lifecycle of learning space technologies, including installation support, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and coordination with internal teams and external partners to maintain and enhance technology-enabled teaching and learning environments.
The Learning Space Technical Associate supports evening or weekend instructional and institutional events as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Technical Support & System Troubleshooting
- Ensure seamless technology integration for daily instructional activities and high-profile events, including guest speakers, symposiums, ceremonies, and special programs, including evening or weekend instructional and institutional events as required.
- Set up, monitor, and troubleshoot AV systems in learning spaces to maintain uninterrupted technology performance.
- Provide in-room and remote technical support for AV systems, BYOD connectivity, and unified communications platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving displays, microphones, cameras, control systems, and audio systems.
- Leverage foundational knowledge of AV device configuration, DSP environments, networking, and control systems (e.g., Crestron, Extron, Biamp) to support reliable system performance.
- Escalate complex configuration or system-level issues appropriately.
- Maintain accurate work orders and support ticket details, including clear descriptions, classifications, and resolution notes to support trend tracking and reporting.
- Identify and escalate recurring user issues to support problem management and continuous improvement efforts.
Installation & Configuration Support
- Ensure seamless technology integration for daily classes and high-profile events. This includes setting up, monitoring, and troubleshooting AV systems for guest speakers, symposiums, and ceremonies-including required support for weekend and after-hours functions.
- Assist with AV system installations, upgrades, and hardware replacements.
- Support equipment testing, firmware updates, and configuration validation
- Verify system functionality prior to operational handoff.
- Coordinate technical activities with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
Preventative Maintenance & Lifecycle Support
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on AV and multimedia systems.
- Conduct equipment inspections and basic system performance validation.
- Assist with asset tracking, lifecycle documentation, and refresh activities.
- Coordinate work orders and project timelines with internal and external partners to meet project deadlines and support strategic technology initiatives.
- Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.
- Participate in pilot initiatives or special projects.
Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience/certification in a relevant field (e.g., Information Technology, Educational Technology) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Work Experience
- 0-3 years of relevant experience supporting audio-visual (AV), instructional technology, or IT environments.
- Relevant experience may include internships, student employment, academic technology support roles, campus IT help desk work, AV event support, relevant coursework, certifications, or hands-on academic or project-based work.
Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage shifting priorities, and meet deadlines.
- Strong customer service orientation and commitment to providing high-quality support and operational excellence.

- Foundational understanding of network and information security principles as they relate to AV systems and device connectivity
Equipment Knowledge
- Familiarity with classroom AV technology such as projectors, displays, switchers, cameras, microphones, control systems (e.g., Extron, Crestron), and video conferencing platforms (Zoom/Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams).
- Competence using computers and workplace productivity tools such as PC, Mac, and Microsoft 365.
Other:
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, including occasional early mornings, late evenings, and weekends.

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
This position involves work in a variety of instructional, technical, and facilities environments across campus.
Tools, machinery and equipment used: Audiovisual and instructional technology equipment including displays, projectors, cameras, microphones, speakers, control systems, and associated mounting hardware. Hand tools and power tools used for installation, adjustment, and maintenance of technology equipment and infrastructure. Ladders, lifts, or other access equipment as required to support installation and maintenance activities. Computers and mobile devices for diagnostics, configuration, documentation, and communication.
Environmental conditions: (any unusual/adverse conditions such as exposure to chemicals, noise, illumination, air quality, weather exposure etc.).: Work may occur in classrooms, lecture halls, conference spaces, data closets, and other technology-enabled environments. Exposure to varying noise levels, lighting conditions, and temperature fluctuations may occur during installation or maintenance activities. Occasional exposure to dust or confined spaces when working near ceiling mounts, equipment racks, or infrastructure pathways.
Physical requirements: (items such as lifting, pushing, pulling, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, manual dexterity, walking etc.) Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull equipment and materials typically weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, bend, and reach for extended periods while performing installation, troubleshooting, or maintenance tasks. Manual dexterity required to operate hand tools, power tools, and precision equipment. Ability to climb ladders or work at heights as required for installation and support activities.
