Instructor of Mathematics and Director of Student Support Services (SSS) Math Lab (F1276I)
The Department of Computing and Mathematical Sciences invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track position at the rank of instructor for AY 2025-2026. The department offers BA in Mathematics, Certificate in Cyber Security, AAS and BS in Information Technology, and BS in Computer Science degrees. The teaching load for this position will be 16 undergraduate hours of developmental and general education courses and 8 hours of Director of Student Support Services Math Lab per academic year.
Responsibilities as Mathematics Instructor:
• Teach a diverse student body in daytime and evening classes on the main campus.
• Teach in various modalities including traditional, hybrid, FLEX, and online.
• Teach courses using a graphic calculator, such as TI-84.
• Integrate technology (computers, online support, and graphing calculators) into college mathematics instruction.
• Participate in department, university and general faculty meetings as defined in the university faculty handbook.
• Participate in department and program level learning assessment. Participation includes helping articulate learning outcomes, choosing and administering measures, collecting and submitting relevant data, evaluating student performance, and suggesting changes to improve student learning.
• Participate actively in curriculum planning, syllabus writing, examination development, textbook selection, program evaluation/revision, and assessment.
• Maintain an active program of personal professional development related to the position responsibilities.
• Participate in college professional development activities.
• Participate in other duties as assigned.
• Regular attendance on campus is required for this position.
Responsibilities as Director of Student Support Services (SSS) Math Lab:
• Managing and overseeing the running of the SSS Math Lab
• Recruiting and managing student tutors.
• Tutoring first-generation and at-risk college students who are members of the SSS Program.
• Updating Blumen database for daily tutoring activities.
• Presenting 2 math related workshops per semester for the SSS participants.
• Managing the Graphing Calculators check-out program for SSS participants.
In addition to the teaching responsibilities, the position requires holding at least 8 hours of office hours per week and participating in service or scholarship activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates applying for this position must meet least one of the following criteria:
1) Possess a master's degree in Mathematics or closely related field (e.g. Statistics).
2) Possess a master's degree and 12 graduate hours in Mathematics or closely related field (e.g. Statistics).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated experience teaching at the college level.
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching to first generation and non-traditional students.
• Experience teaching courses targeted at students with developmental mathematics needs.
• Excellent oral and written English communication skills.
• Ability to work collegially in a team environment.
• Experience with a program that supports student success and retention.
• Experience in tutoring mathematics at the collegiate level.
SALARY RANGE:
$40,000.00 per academic year.
