Newport News, VA
1st Advantage Federal Credit Union is currently seeking a full-time Learning and Development Specialist II to support our Training Department. Scheduled hours will be 40 hours per week between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Learning and Development Specialist II is responsible for maximizing the effectiveness of member facing colleagues by determining and solving training needs that build relationships, drive revenue and assist in achieving scorecard goals. Coordinates and delivers a variety of specified training and development programs based on strategic initiatives of the Credit Union. Will provide the Manager with information necessary for decision making.

Learning and Development Specialist II Essential Functions amp; Responsibilities:
  • Conduct training in areas of new hire, job skills, products and services, compliance regulations, employee development, and changes in policies, procedures and technologies. Training colleagues in both branch and call center environments.
  • Develops, delivers, evaluates and provides content for training programs and procedures and is responsible for related duties as required and assigned, including testing and training in the classroom and live environments.
  • Responsible for training, evaluating and addressing colleague training needs by observing member interactions in the branch, studying production results and reports and conferring with Managers in order to improve production.
  • Suggests and identifies opportunities to the Learning and Development Specialist III or Learning and Development Manager in the areas of sales training, behavioral coaching, and process efficiency.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining effective, professional communication and coordination with Credit Union colleagues, team members, vendors and all levels of Management.
Performance Measurement:
  • Determines training needs for all retail positions by observing member interactions, studying performance results, examining current processes and conferring with Management. Provides feedback on retail colleague effectiveness.
  • Partners with Managers in developing individual performance plans for colleagues and recommends training methods to improve service and performance.
  • Remains visible and active in the field to ensure that Retail colleagues and managers benefit from the partnership.
  • Prepares new retail representatives by conducting new hire training, MSR training and consultative sales skills training. Also conducts classroom, technical and skill-based training as needed and ensures that programs and manuals are accurate, effective and appropriate.
  • Evaluates and improves training effectiveness by utilizing new approaches and techniques, making support readily available and selecting or developing training aids that assist in improving service and performance as a trusted advisor.
  • Collaborates with Management to develop/deliver product and process training.
  • Assists in the content development of training programs based on specific training needs.
  • Ensures that requests, questions, and concerns are professionally and efficiently resolved and communicated.
  • Keeps manager well informed of training activities and any significant concerns.
  • Proactively demonstrates the 1st Advantage FCU core values of accountable, adaptable, driven, dependable, and fun.
Qualifications:
Experience Two to four years of similar or related experience.
Education (1) A bachelor's degree is strongly preferred, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., teaching/ training certifications in lieu of a degree).

Work frequently involves exercising advanced conflict resolution, giving material presentations, and resolving issues impacting multiple departments or divisions. Role also requires the ability to motivate or influence others as a material part of the role, with a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the role and a high level of interpersonal skills is critical to the success of this position.

Physical Requirements
TALKING: Effective verbal communication to convey and acknowledge receiving detailed or important instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly. Frequent clear verbal communication is required, including facilitating training sessions, meetings, and collaboration with colleagues, vendors, and management.
AVERAGE HEARING: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information to communicate effectively.
FINGER DEXTERITY: Using primarily just fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together to use office equipment such as phones, computers, scanners, and other office machinery.
REPETITIVE MOTION: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
AVERAGE VISUAL ABILITIES: Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare and inspect documents, read email and computer screens, and operate office machinery.

PHYSICAL STRENGTH: Sedentary work; sitting at a desk or workstation a majority of work hours. Exerts up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and required to lift up to 25 lbs.

REACHING AND STRETCHING: Reaching and stretching, below the shoulders, to access files, checks, documents, or office equipment on and across shelves, counters, and desks.
