Business Development Representative Managed Technology ServicesPosition Summary

We are seeking a motivated Business Development Representative to join our sales team and help identify, prospect, qualify, and develop new business opportunities for our Managed Technology Services business.

This role is responsible for creating conversations with local businesses, understanding their technology challenges, conducting qualified discovery appointments, and helping move opportunities through the sales process from initial conversation to close.

The ideal candidate is comfortable making outbound calls, networking with business owners and decision makers, following a structured sales process, conducting introductory sales appointments, and learning how managed IT, cybersecurity, cloud, voice, and compliance services solve real business problems.

This is a growth-focused role for someone who is organized, persistent, coachable, and able to represent our company professionally in the local business community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prospect for new business through phone calls, email, LinkedIn, local networking, referral outreach, and targeted campaigns.
  • Identify and qualify companies that are a good fit for managed IT services, cybersecurity, cloud services, VoIP, backup, compliance, and related technology solutions.
  • Schedule and conduct qualified discovery appointments with prospective clients.
  • Help guide qualified opportunities through the sales process, coordinating with sales leadership, ownership, and technical resources as needed.
  • Research target accounts, decision makers, industries, and common business technology challenges.
  • Maintain accurate activity, contact, opportunity, and follow-up records in the company CRM/PSA.
  • Follow up consistently with prospects through structured sales cadences.
  • Assist with lead generation campaigns, events, webinars, lunch-and-learns, and referral partner outreach.
  • Work with marketing and sales leadership to improve messaging, targeting, appointment quality, and close rates.
  • Build a working knowledge of MSP services, cybersecurity risks, Microsoft 365, cloud solutions, backup, compliance, and business continuity.
  • Represent the company professionally at local business events, chamber events, trade shows, and networking groups.
  • Meet or exceed activity, appointment, pipeline, opportunity, and closed-business targets.
What Success Looks Like

A successful BDR consistently creates new conversations with qualified businesses, conducts high-quality discovery appointments, keeps accurate CRM notes, follows up reliably, and helps build a strong sales pipeline for recurring managed services revenue.

Required Qualifications
  • 1+ year of experience in sales, customer service, business development, account management, recruiting, retail sales, telecom, copier sales, insurance, financial services, or another outbound/customer-facing role.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable making outbound calls and handling rejection professionally.
  • Organized and able to manage follow-up tasks without being micromanaged.
  • Ability to learn technical concepts and explain them in business terms.
  • Professional presence with business owners, executives, office managers, controllers, and IT contacts.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for local meetings and networking events.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience selling or prospecting for managed IT services, cybersecurity, telecom, copiers, software, payroll, insurance, or other B2B services.
  • Familiarity with CRM or PSA tools such as ConnectWise, HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with LinkedIn prospecting, email cadences, cold calling, and local networking.
  • Understanding of small and mid-sized business technology needs.
  • Existing local business relationships are a plus.
Compensation

Base salary range: $50,000$65,000 per year, depending on experience.

Commission/bonus opportunity: first-year on-target earnings of approximately $70,000$90,000, with upside for strong performance.

Compensation may include bonuses for qualified meetings held, sales-qualified opportunities created, pipeline generated, and closed new recurring managed services revenue.

Example Commission Structure
  • Closed-business bonus for net-new managed services agreements sourced by the BDR.
  • Additional quarterly bonus for meeting or exceeding activity, meeting, pipeline, and closed-business targets.
Benefits
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Paid holidays
  • Retirement plan options
  • Mileage reimbursement for approved business travel
  • Training and professional development
  • Opportunity for advancement into account management, outside sales, or sales leadership
Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday.

This role may include occasional local networking events, business meetings, or community events outside normal business hours.

Performance Metrics
  • Outbound calls and emails completed
  • New contacts added
  • Qualified meetings scheduled
  • Qualified meetings held
  • Sales-qualified opportunities created
  • Pipeline generated
  • Closed revenue sourced
  • CRM accuracy and follow-up completion
  • Networking and referral partner activity
Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is persistent without being pushy, curious about business problems, comfortable talking to decision makers, and motivated by helping businesses improve their technology. They do not need to be deeply technical, but they must be willing to learn, ask good questions, follow a consistent sales process, and work with the team to turn qualified opportunities into new clients.
