The Employee Benefits (EB) Consulting Practice offers excellent retirement, health, compensation, and investment consulting services to our clients. Health & Group Benefits Consultants are an integral part of the overall client management and client relationship function in the Health & Group Benefits Consulting practice. The successful candidate will have at least ten years of multiemployer consulting experience, with a strong working knowledge of benefits design, delivery, vendor management, and strategy. This full-time, hybrid position will be part of a team supporting the delivery of consulting projects as well as maintaining existing and growing new client relationships. This position will be focused on the support of the multiemployer health benefits market with the potential for select public and/or corporate health clients.

What You Will Do

In this role you will lead or support Health and Group Benefit engagements, manage client projects and relationships, while delivering strategic guidance on plan design, financials, benefit strategy and vendor selection/management. You will support or oversee end-to-end marketing and vendor searches across all coverage lines; ensure rigorous project tracking and peer review; build strong internal partnerships; and may contribute to business development and prospect presentations.

  • Serve as the primary consultant for health and group benefit clients, leading client relationships, overseeing deliverables, and ensuring exceptional service delivery.
  • Provide strategic consulting support on plan design, funding arrangements, vendor evaluation and management, and overall program effectiveness.
  • Lead complex client engagements, coordinating project execution, managing client expectations, and delivering high-quality results.
  • Oversee the marketing and vendor search processes for potentially all lines of coverage including; with a focus on medical and pharmacy coverage.
  • Build, strengthen, and maintain trusted relationships with key client stakeholders, executive leadership, prospects, providers, and industry partners.
  • Support and mentor consultants, consulting actuaries, and other team members by providing technical expertise, project leadership, and professional development guidance.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to expand client relationships through the sale and cross-sale of consulting services, contributing to client retention and practice growth.
  • Participate in business development activities, including proposal development, prospect meetings, and marketing presentations.
  • Collaborate effectively across Milliman practices and disciplines to deliver integrated client solutions and maintain strong internal partnerships.
  • Ensure adherence to established quality standards, peer review requirements, and professional consulting practices.
  • Demonstrate recognized expertise in health and welfare benefits, with deep knowledge of the field, broad understanding of related disciplines, and a reputation as a trusted resource among clients and peers.

What We Are Looking For

We’re seeking an experienced Health Consultant (10+ years) with deep expertise in benefits design, delivery and strategy. The ideal candidate excels at client management and relationship building, contributes to the delivery of consulting projects, and has experience in developing new and existing business. Experience with multiemployer plans is required, with the potential to also support public and/or corporate clients. This is a full-time hybrid role within a collaborative team environment, requiring strong communication, analytical and project management skills.

Professional Qualifications

  • At least ten years of multi-employer health consulting experience, with health and life insurance license(s).
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.
  • Experience working with actuaries is required.
  • Demonstrated success providing multiemployer health consulting services.
  • Current and relevant knowledge of legislation, market trends and issues affecting the multiemployer health market.
  • Experience with coverage for the retiree market, including knowledge of Medicare programs.
  • Thorough understanding of the marketing / vendor search process and the ability to manage the total process.
  • Thorough understanding of medical and prescription drug coverage.
  • Thorough understanding of self-insurance and stop-loss coverage concepts.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with an ability to present and manage presentations covering complex topics.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-employer health legal and regulatory framework.
  • Effective time management skills to prioritize and organize multiple complex projects.
  • Strong skills as a problem solver, including taking initiatives to complete necessary research and document the process used to reach conclusions.
  • Travel (local and potentially regionally) required.
  • Able to work with time-sensitive material and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Able to work independently while also contributing to team environment.

    Location

    This position is based in Portland, OR, Orange County, CA, Walnut Creek, CA, Seattle, WA or Chicago, IL. Candidates hired in this role must be willing to work in-person in the Milliman office on a weekly basis, but flexible work arrangements will be considered for our hybrid environment.

    Compensation

    The overall salary range for this role is $131,600 - $249,780. For candidates residing in:

    • Orange County, CA, Walnut Creek, CA, Seattle, WA and Chicago, IL the salary range is $151,340 - $249,780
    • Portland, OR the salary range is $131,600 - $217,200

    A combination of factors will be considered, including, but not limited to, education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, etc.
