Overview:
Talcott's Summer Actuarial Leadership Program is designed to provide students with a dynamic and rewarding opportunity to deeply immerse themselves in real-life business challenges! As part of this ten-week fast-paced summer program, students work side by side with our industry professionals within one of Connecticut's largest Actuarial Leadership Training programs! This opportunity shall be a weekly hybrid onsite work arrangement in our contemporary Hartford, Connecticut campus on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Throughout this experience, students will dive into business assignments that shall expand their technical expertise, business knowledge and leadership skills. Interns will be placed in one of our departments which may include: Actuarial, Enterprise Risk Management, or Investments in support of our product lines (variable annuities, fixed annuities, fixed index annuities or life insurance.) All interns are exposed to a variety of actuarial functions such as pricing, valuation, financial reporting, risk assessment and more!
In addition to hands-on learning, Talcott's internship program offers an extensive calendar of enrichment activities to support a student's personal growth! We sponsor frequent social events where our interns can directly interact with members of our actuarial leadership team among many other disciplines. At the conclusion of this internship experience, students will deliver a final presentation to our Chief Actuary and other key members of Talcott's actuarial community!
Qualifications:
  • Students pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in actuarial science, mathematics, economics or a similar concentration
  • Eligible candidates shall be entering their sophomore year or beyond with a 3.5 GPA or better
  • Strong preference will be given to students who have passed at least 1 of the SOA's actuarial exams
  • Previous internship experience is preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated drive for continuous learning and growth
  • Strong work ethic and the willingness to "do what it takes" to meet critical objectives
  • Keen attention to detail, pride in the ownership of work products and positive attitude
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Aptitude for learning technical software and coding skills, such as Excel, VBA, and R
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Desire to continually improve processes while delivering timely and accurate results
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously while effectively managing conflicting priorities

Compensation:
This range represents the minimum and maximum annual base salary we reasonably expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. The actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range. The base pay is based on factors including but not limited to experience, competence, and demonstration of proficiencies essential for the role. The base pay is just one component of Talcott's total annual compensation for employees. Other compensation may include annual bonuses, long-term incentives and recognition.
