PELSB Licensed Educator PREK STARS Early Learning Academy (western Carver County)
Cologne Academy (PreKindergarten-8th Grade Public School) Cologne, MN is located in Carver County and currently enrolls approximately 750 students between our onsite and virtual academy.  Cologne Academy offers its students an enriched learning experience through the Core Knowledge curriculum and an individualized approach to learning.  Cologne Academy seeks professional educators who are passionate about contributing to its mission and vision that focuses on academics and character development.  

Cologne Academy's PreK program is held at the STARS location.  Thus both PELSB licensure and DHS rules apply.

STARS Early Learning Academy is a local nonprofit child care center that is driven and inspired by our vision to provide the very best in child care and early childhood education from infants to school-aged children.  STARS ELA has carefully crafted every aspect of our new business with the children, parents, and teachers at the forefront of our design.  STARS ELA will deliver care that nurtures the whole child and partners with families, who in turn, partner with their away from home caretakers to ensure a mutual platform for children to thrive. 

OVERVIEW

A teacher employed at STARS Early Learning Academy will provide a welcoming, nurturing, safe, and educational environment for students.  He/she will assume the responsibilities of classroom management, lesson planning, relationship building, assessing student progress, and following a daily schedule. 
Equally important are exhibiting a positive attitude, asserting flexibility, and possessing a high level of patience and professionalism.  The teacher will provide supervision and immediate care as needed to protect children's well-being. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed in early childhood, preprimary, or elementary education
  • Must be at least 18 years old and meet specific educational and experience requirements specified by the DHS Child Care Center Rules.
  • Preferred previous experience in an early childhood or elementary classroom setting.
  • Evidence of continued professional development.
  • Certified in pediatric CPR and First Aid.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Well-organized, committed, positive.
  • Creative and energetic.
  • Thorough knowledge of early childhood and/or school age best practices.
  • Mobility required to ensure the safety of children.
  • High level of patience.
  • Lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Background study clearance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Arrive to work on time.
  • Oversee and manage a classroom of early childhood or school-age children while remaining in ratio.
  • Remain flexible and calm while multi-tasking in a busy classroom environment.
  • Plan, write, post, and implement developmentally appropriate lesson plans.
  • Establish safe and positive boundaries with children.
  • Implement successful, consistent, and appropriate classroom management techniques.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment for children and families.
  • Develop professional and respectful relationships with parents and co-workers.
  • Complete an assessment of each child's social, emotional, and academic progress twice annually.
  • Conduct 2 parent/teacher conferences annually.
  • Play with children on the floor.
  • Be outdoors supervising children in various weather conditions.
  • Create and adhere to a daily schedule.
  • Provide leadership and supervision of an Assistant Teacher and/or Aide.
  • Problem-solve quickly under pressure.
  • Maintain documentation of children when needed.
