Job description

Production Supervisor

Position Overview:

The Production Supervisor is expected to oversee day-to-day production to ensure that the required performance and quality standards are achieved. The role will be to oversee production staff, leading them to produce high-quality items at a pace that meets labor-set and yield-set standards. The role will ensure that machines are operational and that materials are on-site, so that production runs smoothly.

The qualified individual should have previous experience of working in a food manufacturing environment and should have the people and operational skills to ensure that production runs smoothly. The successful candidate should be a strong people manager and should have strong organizational skills to ensure that production levels and quality meet the expected standards. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 
  • Oversee and monitor day-to-day production to ensure that performance and quality standards are achieved.
  • Create daily work schedules to ensure that lines are sufficiently manned.
  • Lead a team to produce high-quality items at a pace that meets labor-set and yield-set standards.
  • Oversee employee performance, providing guidance and support and identifying development needs.  
  • Coordinate with other departments as necessary to ensure on-time and smooth start-up.
  • Monitor inventory and coordinate the materials required to accomplish the daily schedule.
  • Maintain and improve production processes.
  • Perform analysis to ensure compliance with customer specifications while maintaining the AOP.
  • Ensure that all checks and documentation are completed, performing regular quality and safety audits. 
  • Liaise as necessary with maintenance to ensure that machines are kept running at an optimum level.
  • Manage day-to-day issues that arise.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  

NOTE: This role will require extended hours based on production needs, including work to be performed after regular business hours and on weekends.

  • Basic knowledge of food processing practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of food safety principles.
  • Understanding of plant equipment and the ability to troubleshoot basic issues.  
  • Good math skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to interact and engage well with a diverse group of team members.
  • Good people management and team building skills.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of computer software.
  • Good time management, multi-tasking, prioritization, and delegation abilities.
  • Ability to schedule and plan work.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to recognize opportunities to improve processes and create efficiencies.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time in front of a computer.
  • Ability to stand and move about the plant for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting items of up to 100 lbs. unassisted, bending, standing, climbing or walking.
  • Visual and hearing acuity.

Education and Experience:

  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Preferred Education: Associate degree in Operations or Manufacturing Management or a related field is preferred.
  • Preferred Experience: Two or more years of manufacturing experience in the food industry. Experience of using Lean methodologies is preferred.
  • Works in a plant and in a general office environment.
  • Will be required to wear suitable Personal Protective Equipment.
  • May be exposed to the loud noise of plant machinery.
  • May be exposed to extreme temperatures, wet humid conditions, and inclement weather.
  • May be exposed to oils and airborne particles.  
  • May be required to work near moving mechanical parts.
  • May, on rare occasions, be exposed to the risk of electric shock.
