Job description

Nuveen is seeking an experienced Lead Development Manager to join our CLO Portfolio Management Technology team. In this role, you will design, build, test, and support mission-critical applications that directly serve portfolio managers, traders, and other investment professionals. You will bring deep technical expertise in Python-based backend development, cloud-native architecture, and CI/CD practices, combined with a strong understanding of CLO structures, Bank Loans, or broader Fixed Income securities. This is a hands-on engineering role with a leadership dimension, requiring you to guide development best practices, engage directly with senior stakeholders, and translate complex financial workflows into scalable, production-grade software.
The Senior Full Stack Developer will serve as a technical anchor on the team, taking ownership of both individual contributions and the quality of work delivered by the broader development group.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
  • Software Design and Development: You will lead the design, development, and delivery of full stack applications, with primary responsibility for backend Python services and RESTful APIs deployed as AWS Lambda functions, containerized workloads, or EC2-hosted services. Work will span the full development lifecycle, from architecture and implementation through testing, deployment, and ongoing support, in alignment with established SDLC standards and organizational guidelines.
  • CI/CD and DevOps Ownership: You will own and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins or CloudBees, ensuring reliable, repeatable delivery across development, staging, and production environments. You will enforce branching strategies, code review workflows, and release management practices using GitLab and Git, and contribute to infrastructure management using Terraform.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Requirements Translation: You will engage directly with senior investment professionals, including portfolio managers and traders, to clarify requirements, surface constraints, and communicate technical tradeoffs in business-relevant language. You are expected to translate CLO portfolio management workflows, Bank Loan lifecycles, and Fixed Income operational needs into well-structured, maintainable software components.
  • Technical Leadership and Code Quality: You will serve as a technical anchor for the team, conducting code reviews, establishing development standards, and mentoring other developers. You will monitor delivered work to ensure it meets functional goals and quality benchmarks, and proactively identify and resolve issues across environments.
  • Agile Participation: You will participate actively in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog grooming, and retrospectives. You will maintain a well-prioritized product backlog, provide accurate effort estimates, and support on-time, within-budget delivery.
  • Documentation: You will create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation covering architecture decisions, API specifications, data models, and operational runbooks, in accordance with SDLC and organizational standards.
  • AI-Assisted Development: You will leverage AI-assisted development tools such as Amazon Q, GitHub Copilot, or Kiro to accelerate delivery and improve code quality, and will encourage adoption of these tools across the team.
