Labcorp is seeking a Senior Lead Software Engineer to join our team in the Burlington, NC or Durham, NC office.

Work Schedule

This is a fulltime, exempt (salaried) position assigned to a First Shift schedule, with standard business hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Business needs may occasionally require flexibility in work hours, including earlier, later, or additional hours, with reasonable notice provided when possible.

Applicants who live within 35 miles of either the Burlington, NC or Durham, NC location will follow a hybrid schedule. This schedule includes a minimum of three in-office days per week at an assigned location, either Burlington or Durham, supporting both collaboration and flexibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Delivery

  • Own and deliver long-term product or platform goals across multiple teams, defining the what and how while holding a high standard for technical outcomes.
  • Create coherent designs across multiple systems and organizational boundaries, choosing the right technologies that fit within a larger architecture.
  • Roll out or deprecate major features or systems without negatively impacting other teams.
  • Own the overall health, engineering quality, and operational strategy (testing, observability, health monitoring) of multiple systems across platforms.
  • Set clear system metrics and achieve them consistently throughout the lifetime of multiple systems.
  • Provide high-quality feedback on designs written by engineers across the organization.
  • Champion the responsible adoption of AI and agentic engineering practices-helping the team leverage these tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining high quality standards, sound engineering judgment, and appropriate oversight.

Ownership & Impact

  • Identify and prioritize the right solutions to ambiguous, open-ended problems with organization-wide impact.
  • Define and deliver the vision for large business-impacting projects that span multiple teams and years.
  • Influence the roadmaps of other teams to hit business goals and ensure cross-team alignment.
  • Proactively identify opportunities and act on them across the engineering organization.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serve as a role model and mentor for engineers across multiple teams, personifying the values of the engineering organization and setting the standard for technical excellence.
  • Break down silos and build cross-functional relationships to ensure the right conversations are happening.
  • Inspire teams and stakeholders to work toward the company's long-term technical and business vision.
  • Anticipate organizational or technical challenges and execute effectively despite misalignment or ambiguity.
  • Share knowledge across the organization through multiple avenues including tech talks, blog posts, documentation, and mentorship.

Communication

  • Influence stakeholders and get buy-in across multiple teams and disciplines.
  • Deliver messages and data at the right level of granularity for diverse audiences, from engineers to executives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • 6 years of related experience with a Bachelor's Degree.
  • 2 or more years of owning and delivering technical strategy across multiple teams and years.
  • 1 or more years of experience influencing product and technical roadmaps beyond immediate team.
  • 2 or more years of experience in multiple programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, TypeScript, Kotlin).
  • 2 or more years of experience with cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS) and distributed systems at scale.
  • 2 or more years of experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 or more years of experience with a Master's degree or higher.
  • 1 or more years of experience defining and executing multi-year technical strategy in healthcare technology or regulated industries.
  • 2 or more years of experience with healthcare interoperability standards (HL7 v2.x, FHIR, CDA) and their application at scale.
  • 2 or more years of experience working with multiple EHR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and understanding of clinical workflows across different healthcare settings.
  • 2 or more years of experience designing and implementing integration architectures using engines such as Mirth, Cloverleaf, or Redox.
  • 2 or more years of experience navigating healthcare compliance requirements (HIPAA, HITRUST) in system design and operations.
  • 1 or more years of experience working in clinical laboratory, genomics, or diagnostics industries.
  • 1 or more years of experience with AI-assisted development tools and agentic engineering workflows, with a focus on responsible adoption and quality assurance.

Labcorp is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to join our Order & Results Integration team and serve as a technical leader across multiple platforms and teams. This role goes beyond individual project delivery-you'll define the technical vision and strategy for how genetic testing ordering and results delivery systems evolve over multiple years, while influencing roadmaps across the organization to ensure alignment with business goals.

You'll own the design and delivery of large-scale, business-critical systems that span multiple teams and platforms, working with interoperability standards like HL7 and FHIR at organizational scale. This is a role for someone who thrives on solving ambiguous problems with high organizational impact, creates coherent architectures across system boundaries, and serves as a role model for engineering excellence across the company.
