Description
The Belfast Community Co-op is looking for an experienced Lead Production Cook to be part of our Prepared Foods Leadership Team. The ideal candidate is skilled at implementing, and maintaining systems, is solution-oriented, and is an effective communicator and leader. Belfast Community Co-op's mission is to bring locally sourced, reasonably priced, organic and natural products to all while fostering an environment where everyone is truly welcome.
This is a full-time position (30+ hours weekly), 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (closing) with a starting wage of $18.00-$19.00 per hour.
The Lead Production Cook is responsible for the smooth function of the Prepared Foods kitchen during assigned shifts, and for opening or closing the department as scheduled. Shift activities include providing support to kitchen workers, ensuring execution of daily production lists, troubleshooting equipment and product quality issues, resolving customer questions and complaints, and performing the tasks of a production cook. Production Leads are an essential part of the kitchen team, providing in-the-moment leadership in alignment with department expectations, and using on-shift experience to make recommendations for improvements in department operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Ensures the smooth functioning of Prepared Foods kitchen throughout the shift
  • Opens and closes department as scheduled
  • Performs tasks of a Production Cook as needed throughout the shift
  • Trains department workers as directed

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS FOR ALL WORKERS
  • Provides exceptional customer service to internal & external customers, both in person & via phone
  • Wears any required uniform (nametag, apron, chef coat, etc.) so as to be easily identifiable to customers and able to work safely (hair covering, closed toed shoes, etc.)
  • Works efficiently and safely
  • Takes initiative and works as a part of a team
  • Approaches work with a positive attitude
  • Continues to learn and develop knowledge as it relates to the position, co-op, and industry
  • Demonstrates regular and dependable attendance

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS (knowledge, skills, and abilities)
Minimum:
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication).
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English.
  • Effective communication skills; ability to work closely and cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • Knowledge of basic kitchen safety, and ability to teach others
  • Time management skills sufficient to independently establish priorities and complete critical tasks in a timely manner
  • Experience in a commercial kitchen environment

Preferred:
  • Strong knife skills, including ability to execute specific cuts
  • Experience with basic maintenance of kitchen equipment
  • Experience leading a team, preferably in a commercial kitchen
  • Demonstrated customer service experience
  • Training in kitchen sanitation and food safety
