Job Description:

Position Title: After-School Lead Teacher

Department: Great Hearts Lead Office, Co-Curricular Programs

Location: Academy

Reports To: Campus Coordinator

EEO Classification: Professional

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation Type: Hourly

Compensation Amount: $16.50-17.50/hour

Position Summary: Co-Curricular Lead Teachers facilitate activities and independently supervise students in the after-school program. This is a wonderful opportunity for aspiring educators or for those who love working with children. This is a part-time, seasonal, non-exempt, non-benefited position. After-school programs are open Monday-Friday from school dismissal until 6:00 p.m. (earlier start on early release days). Approximately 15-20 hours per week.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise up to 20 students in a classroom setting.
  • Facilitate homework, recess, and other activities.
  • Present lessons from provided classical curriculum.
  • Utilize appropriate child guidance and classroom management strategies.
  • Model and instill Great Hearts 9 Core Virtues (responsibility, perseverance, integrity, honesty, courage, citizenship, humility, friendship, wisdom).
  • Follow standard operating procedures to ensure high quality programs.
  • Follow all licensing rules and regulations per AZDHS.
  • Follow protocols for responding to and documenting student behavior and significant events.
  • Escalate incident reports and significant events to supervisor.
  • Substitute at another campus when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required/Preferred Education: Some college preferred but not required. Must meet qualifications for Teacher/Caregiver in accordance with Arizona Department of Health Services Bureau of Childcare licensing. Lead Teachers must have 3 months of experience in a qualifying setting or a degree in education/related field. Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. First aid/CPR certification preferred but not required.

Required/Preferred Skills: The successful candidate will be a principled, professional leader with an independent work ethic and a heart of service to others. They must demonstrate sound business judgment and wisdom in dealing with people. Preference will be given to those candidates who have worked in a licensed program. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Functions: Requires but is not limited to standing, sitting, repetitious hand and body movements, bending, squatting, and reaching. Running, jumping and other rapid movements may also be required. May be required to move or position equipment up to 15 pounds approximately.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal history background check and fingerprint clearance in accordance with state requirements.

Travel required: May need to travel locally for training and professional development opportunities.
