Description

URM Stores, Inc. is in need of an experienced Grocery Store Designer! We're seeking a talented design professional who can transform ideas into innovative, functional retail environments that elevate customer shopping experience.


In this role, you'll partner closely with retail grocers and operations teams to develop impactful store concepts and detailed technical drawings for both new store construction and remodel projects of varying sizes and scopes. Reporting to the Director of Store Planning & Equipment, you'll play a key role in shaping efficient, visually engaging grocery spaces from concept through execution.


Your work will directly support some of the our region's most recognized grocery banners, including Rosauers Supermarkets, Yoke's Fresh Markets, Super 1 Foods, Harvest Foods, and Town & Country Stores.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Create innovative and detail-driven designs using AutoCAD and/or Revit to bring retail concepts to life.
  • Collaborate directly with URM retail partners to develop fixture plans, site layouts, storefront elevations, and comprehensive construction support documents.
  • Partner with architects and structural, electrical, and mechanical engineers to deliver complete, permit-ready construction plan sets.
  • Interpret building codes, site requirements, and technical specifications to ensure accurate, compliant, and functional designs.
  • Develop equipment lists and project budgets for both new store builds and remodel initiatives.
  • Conduct precise field measurements, equipment inventories, and as-built plan development for existing facilities.
  • Perform on-site inspections and technical evaluations to gather critical information needed for construction documentation.
  • Serve as a key point of coordination between store owners and equipment vendors, ensuring smooth communication and project execution.

Minimum Position Qualifications/Education:

  • 3+ years of experience creating retail site plans, fixture layouts, and equipment plans within a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong understanding of retail store operations, fixtures, and equipment design principles.
  • Known for exceptional integrity, reliability, and professionalism in every aspect of the job.
  • Skilled at problem-solving, critical thinking, and making sound decisions in dynamic project environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and stakeholders.
  • Valid driver's license is required, with the ability to travel to project sites as needed.
