Job Description:Our client, a major media company, is seeking a highly experienced Lead BI/Data/Web Developer to join a newly formed data team. This is a hands-on development role, not just analytics/strategy — the ideal candidate will have 10 years of BI reporting experience, including 5 years of deep, hands-on Tableau development, and will architect and build performance-optimized Tableau solutions that transform complex media data into clear, actionable dashboards. This person will sit on the front-end/user-facing side of the business (data engineers handle the backend), working closely with a strong India-based Tableau development team as the senior US counterpart — not managing them directly, but serving as the go-to technical expert. Reporting will span audience/viewership, streaming/CTV, content performance, subscriptions, and advertising performance. This is not a "build me a dashboard" role — the ideal candidate understands the backend data, Tableau itself, and custom development around Tableau.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Lead the full lifecycle (design, development, testing, deployment) of complex Tableau dashboards covering metrics like subscriber churn, ad impressions, video views, content watch time, audience demographics, and campaign ROI
  • Build and maintain complex Tableau dashboards and reports for large-scale media and audience data
  • Build and customize a BI web portal around Tableau, including Tableau APIs, JavaScript, and PHP
  • Develop custom BI applications that function as a wrapper around Tableau reports using the Tableau API
  • Integrate the BI portal with backend AI agents to enable user interaction via text prompts (chatbot integration)
  • Work directly with business stakeholders from the start of a project to understand needs and translate them into dashboards and reports
  • Architect scalable, highly efficient Tableau data sources, optimizing query performance against large datasets (100 million rows)
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers and Scientists to define and refine data models (e.g., star schemas) in Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery
  • Serve as SME for advanced Tableau functionality, including complex LOD expressions, data blending, dynamic parameters, and performance tuning
  • Partner with Advertising Sales, Marketing, Content Strategy, and Finance teams to define reporting requirements and KPIs
  • Mentor junior developers on data storytelling, dashboard design, SQL optimization, and BI governance

Minimum Requirements:

  • 10 years of professional BI development experience, including at least 5 years dedicated to Tableau in an enterprise environment
  • Expert-level Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server/Cloud proficiency
  • Advanced SQL skills for complex querying, ETL, and performance tuning against large/complex datasets
  • Hands-on experience with large-scale cloud data platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift)
  • Full-stack/web development skills — Tableau APIs, JavaScript, and PHP — with the ability to build and customize a web interface around Tableau
  • Experience designing, building, and supporting a BI portal environment (e.g., Apache Tomcat, PHP, JavaScript)
  • Media, entertainment, publishing, or AdTech industry experience, with an understanding of advertising, audience, content, viewership, or media performance data
  • AI fluency — able to intelligently explain what AI can and cannot do, and understands how to integrate AI into products/workflows
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills, comfortable working directly with business users from day one
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience (degree in Data, Computer Science, or Math preferred)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current Tableau Certified Professional certification or equivalent
  • Familiarity with Ad-Tech platforms (Google Ad Manager, DSPs, SSPs) or audience measurement tools (Nielsen, Comscore)
  • Experience with Python for data wrangling
  • Streaming/CTV experience (e.g., Roku, Fire TV, or similar large-scale digital media environments)
