Lead Backup Engineer (Rubrik)

Location: Remote (Preference for candidates within 50 miles of Newtown Square, PA)
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire (Full-time candidates will also be considered)
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM, with minimal on-call rotation and occasional onsite travel (approximately once every 1–2 months)

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Backup Engineer to lead enterprise backup and recovery operations across on-premises and cloud environments. This role will serve as the technical expert for backup infrastructure, disaster recovery, and data protection, ensuring the availability and recoverability of critical business systems. The ideal candidate has extensive hands-on experience administering Rubrik Enterprise Backup and Recovery in large enterprise environments and enjoys collaborating with cross-functional infrastructure teams to deliver resilient backup solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, administer, and optimize enterprise backup and recovery solutions using Rubrik Enterprise Backup and Recovery.

  • Develop and maintain enterprise backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies to support business continuity objectives.

  • Monitor, validate, and troubleshoot backup and restore operations to ensure successful recovery of critical systems and data.

  • Administer backup environments supporting:

    • VMware vSphere

    • Windows Server

    • Linux Server

    • Microsoft SQL Server

    • Oracle Database

  • Support enterprise data protection across both on-premises infrastructure and cloud environments.

  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance tuning for backup and recovery operations.

  • Collaborate with infrastructure, storage, database, virtualization, and application teams to ensure backup solutions align with operational and business requirements.

  • Develop and maintain operational documentation, backup policies, recovery procedures, and disaster recovery runbooks.

  • Provide technical leadership, recommend best practices, and drive continuous improvements for enterprise backup operations.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of hands-on Rubrik administration experience (required).

  • 7+ years of enterprise backup administration experience in large-scale production environments.

  • Expert knowledge of Rubrik Enterprise Backup and Recovery technologies.

  • Strong experience protecting and recovering enterprise workloads across:

    • VMware vSphere

    • Windows Server

    • Linux Server

    • Microsoft SQL Server

    • Oracle Database

  • Experience supporting backup solutions across both on-premises and cloud environments.

  • Strong knowledge of disaster recovery concepts, backup architecture, and enterprise data protection.

  • Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, and root cause analysis skills.

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience serving as a technical lead or leading enterprise backup initiatives.

  • Experience supporting healthcare or other highly regulated enterprise environments.

  • Knowledge of enterprise storage technologies and disaster recovery planning.

  • Industry certifications related to Rubrik, VMware, cloud platforms, or enterprise infrastructure are a plus.
