Job description

We are looking for a Cybersecurity Operations Intern in Austin, TX. This individual will receive hands-on training and practical experience in administering, maintaining, and enhancing enterprise cybersecurity tooling. Working under the guidance of the organization’s Cybersecurity Officer and tooling team leads, you will support daily operational tasks, contribute to reporting requirements, and assist in strengthening the organization’s cybersecurity posture. This role is designed for individuals seeking to build foundational skills in cybersecurity operations and security tool management.
Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the administration, configuration, and maintenance of cybersecurity operations tools and platforms.
  • Support cybersecurity leadership and tooling team leads in daily operational activities.
  • Participate in hands-on training focused on tool administration, maintenance, and resilience.
  • Provide tooling-related input for monthly and annual reporting requirements.
  • Conduct research and propose recommendations to improve operational efficiency, tool resilience, and cybersecurity maturity.
  • Gain experience in planning, deploying, and managing enterprise security toolsets.

Training & Learning Focus Areas
You will develop skills and contribute to services including:

  • Custom managed scanning services
  • Custom managed endpoint protection
  • Managed Cisco Secure Network Analytics
  • Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) administration

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Foundational understanding of network security monitoring concepts and incident response tools (e.g., EDR, scanners, SIEM, NetFlow).
  • Basic knowledge of intrusion detection and incident response principles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and professional reporting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and follow guidance from senior cybersecurity staff.

Preferred Qualifications (Optional)

  • Coursework or certifications in cybersecurity, information technology, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with security frameworks or best practices (e.g., NIST, CIS).
  • Experience with scripting or automation tools.
