They can engineer, build, install, and service the full set of components required to manage noise, protect personnel, and ensure efficient, reliable operation of heavy-duty rotating equipment.

Overview:

Working closely with Engineering, the Designer completes a variety of complex design assignments with extensive latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgement. The Designer provides direct engineering input for the development of original designs or adaptions. Investigates and procures all data required to develop a design and confers with engineering to resolve detail not completely defined. Prepares accurate drawings and designs using 3D CAD software.

Key Responsibilities:

Uses 3D CAD to develop, model and design new products or modify/adapt existing products or systems.

Proficiently and accurately completes general arrangement drawings, detailed part views and isometric projections, creates bill of materials and drafts other engineering documentation.

Processes and schedules engineering work requests (EWR), order change requests (OCR), and prepares and reviews engineering drawings and supporting documentation to verify adherence to standard practices.

Advanced and broad cross-functional knowledge of various product lines and designs.

Advanced knowledge of engineering dept. processes, internal tools, specifications and calculations, drawing version and revision control.

Meets departmental metric targets for throughput, quality and on-time delivery.

Can work independently on the development of new designs and engages engineering and plant staff appropriately on design and drawing detail.

Collaborates with engineering, plant staff and customers on engineering proposals and drawings, bill of materials, construction and assembly.

Strong contributor to problem solving activities can implement alternative designs or adaptations.

Basic knowledge of acoustical, aerodynamic and emissions principles and applications and instrumentation and test protocols and can perform basic product sizing calculations for customer proposals and quotes under supervision of engineering.

Assist in field measurements to support accurate design, layout and installation requirements.

Performs additional design related functions as assigned by supervisor.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in mechanical drafting (or equivalent) and minimum 5 year experience:

o Proficient to expert use of 3D CAD. PTC Creo preferred.

o Proficient in 2D CAD. AutoCAD Mechanical preferred.

o Proficient experience product data management, drawing revision and version control.

o Advanced experience in design of sheet metal fabricated products, steel fabrication and their welding and manufacturing process.

o Applied Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles with emphasis on product design optimization for manufacturability and cost efficiency.

o Proficient in application of engineering specification, design standards and practices.

o Working knowledge of multiple product lines and can efficiently complete a high volume of work.

Good oral and written communication skills, including proficient technical writing skills.

A team oriented, self-starting individual capable of working with little supervision.

Ability to prioritize high volume of work and meet deadlines.

Demonstrates ability to work well in a semi-independent, self-motivated work situation.

This position requires the ability to occasionally move around the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc.

Consistently operates a computer and other office equipment such as a, copy machine, computer printer, calculator, etc.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the work-day.

Ability to frequently communicate, verbally and or written with employees, management, vendors and customers.

This position may occasionally require manufacturing plant visits to review and inspect work in various stages of manufacturing and assembly.
