Law Firm Manager information

What does a law firm manager do?

A Law Firm Manager oversees the daily operations of a law firm, ensuring that administrative, financial, and human resources tasks are handled efficiently. Their responsibilities often include managing staff, creating budgets, developing office policies, and implementing strategic plans for the firm's growth. They act as a bridge between attorneys and administrative staff, making sure the practice runs smoothly and complies with relevant regulations. The role requires strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

What are some common challenges a law firm manager faces when balancing administrative duties with supporting legal teams?

Law Firm Managers often navigate the challenge of balancing day-to-day administrative tasks, such as budgeting, HR management, and regulatory compliance, with the need to support attorneys and paralegals in delivering quality client service. This requires effective time management, strong communication skills, and the ability to prioritize tasks that keep the firm running smoothly. Additionally, adapting to evolving legal technology and maintaining a positive, collaborative workplace culture are ongoing challenges. Successfully managing these responsibilities ensures both operational efficiency and high morale within the legal team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a law firm manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Law Firm Manager, you need expertise in legal operations, business management, and a solid understanding of legal procedures, usually backed by a degree in business administration or law. Familiarity with case management software, billing systems, and legal research tools is commonly required. Exceptional leadership, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills help manage teams and foster effective communication across the firm. These skills ensure efficient firm operations, client satisfaction, and compliance with legal and ethical standards.

Many pursue a bachelor's degree in business, management, or a related field, and some obtain certifications in legal administration or management. Launch Your Career with a Firm That's Changing the Game
Justice Law Corporation is a plaintiff-side employment law firm making a real difference. We've recovered over half a billion dollars for clients harmed by workplace discrimination and retaliation-and we're just getting started. With our growing presence in Washington State, we're building a team of fierce advocates in Seattle who share our commitment to justice.
If you're a newly bar-eligible attorney ready to grow your skills, work on meaningful cases, and contribute to a mission-driven team, we want to hear from you.
The Role

  • Participate in mediations and case strategy discussions
  • Review and organize case documents
  • Contribute to case analysis and legal research
  • Develop core litigation skills under attorney guidance

What We Offer
Real Mentorship Work alongside experienced employment law attorneys - you'll have direct access to partners and counsel, regular feedback, and the chance to develop strong foundational litigation skills.
A Clear Path Forward Exceptional candidates will be offered a full-time attorney position upon passing the Washington Bar exam.
Competitive Compensation $30-$50/hour, depending on experience and bar passage status.
A Supportive Team Environment Join a growing legal support team and a firm culture that values collaboration, integrity, and work-life balance.
Meaningful Work Every case you work on directly impacts someone's life. You'll see the results of your efforts and know your contributions matter.
About You
Required:
  • Recently taken (or about to take) the Washington State Bar exam
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively
  • Sound judgment and attention to detail
  • Genuine passion for employment law and client advocacy

Preferred:
  • Previous internship or clerkship experience
  • Familiarity with employment law concepts
  • Experience with legal research tools and document management systems

Position Details
  • Type: Full-Time, Post-Bar Law Clerk
  • Location: Seattle, WA (Remote/Hybrid flexible)
  • Compensation: $30-$50/hour, depending on experience and bar status
  • Start Date: Flexible, based on bar passage
