Job description

If you are a current law school student living in New Jersey or New York and have superb research and writing skills, we want to hear from you. Our law firm is looking for the next law clerk to help our attorneys shine. You will work closely with senior and junior attorneys, paralegals, and other law clerks in preparing legal memoranda, which will confirm or deny the citations in an attorney’s legal brief in an effort to prepare for trial. You will also have the opportunity to prepare subpoenas and motions, docket deadlines, and learn about filing requirements for both circuit and federal courts.

Compensation:

$25 - $40 per hour DOE


Responsibilities:
  • Prepare the initial drafts of various documents, such as pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests/responses
  • Interview witnesses, consult legal experts and communicate with clients in preparation for trial
  • Keep files organized to make sure the most recent information is accurate and deadlines and docketed properly
  • Create legal memoranda outlining results of research to help plan the best strategy for success for court proceedings
  • Perform legal research to confirm legal authority cited in briefs or other documents for attorneys and judges

Qualifications:
  • Recent law school graduate or current law school student with an undergraduate degree
  • Plan to take or have already passed state bar exam
  • Must have great writing skills and effective communication skills to participate in oral arguments effectively
  • Exhibit strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • One to two years of work experience in a legal environment
