Job Title - Specialized Instructor
Levels - Levels I, II, III
Classification Non-Exempt
Reports to Site Coordinator

JOB DESCRIPTION
A Specialized Instructor will be highly skilled, have the ability and capacity to teach students a given specialty by immersing them in interactive hands-on enrichment lessons.
Essential Functions:
  • Develop and facilitate a full syllabus and lesson plans for enrichment activities that are approved of by Site Coordinator and meet the needs of the program and students.
  • Manage students sign in and out of program, complete incident reports, and follow all program compliance requirements as instructed
  • Instruct the scheduled enrichment time block and meet minimum student-instructor ratio in accordance to program needs and grant requirements
    • arc reserves the right to cancel or terminate a program at any time, for any of the following reasons: poor quality, low attendance, inappropriate behavior, failure to submit attendance sheets daily.
  • Market and advertise the enrichment program to students by participating in activity showcases, create advertisement flyers, and recruit students on campus to generate participant interest
  • Specialized Instructor cannot sell or market private services or products to students or communicate privately with students
  • Demonstrate leadership and a commitment to educating and empowering youth to reach their full potential
  • Use proper safety protocols for indoor and outdoor settings by clearly defining safety expectations
  • Have basic knowledge of age appropriate classroom and behavior management skills - Staff member routinely and effectively uses classroom management techniques like setting expectations, proper rewards and discipline, attention getters, and incentives
  • Be a responsible, energetic, and creative individual - Staff member interacts with students in an age appropriate manner, fosters positive relationships, and appropriately manages behavior
  • Participates in training and development during introductory employment period, ongoing professional development, and routine staff development meetings; implements training and feedback
  • Effectively communicates verbally and in writing as appropriate and when needed to share information that is critical to the successful operations of programs.
  • Uses critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make sound decisions as it pertains to your role and position at arc by implementing and considering training and best practices for youth programs
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Availability to work set school programming hours, including early dismissal days and weekends as assigned
  • Experience facilitating specialized curriculum to students
  • Experience working in school settings, after school programs, or youth recreational facilities
  • Experience in working with ethnic and culturally diverse communities
  • 48+ College Units completed or pass on the CAPE exam
  • TB Test Clearance & Live Scan Clearance (Background check)
  • For LAUSD placed must obtain LAUSD SSO AND complete requisite Risk Management Training (RMT)
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred
  • Current CPR Certification adult, child, and infant
  • To qualify for higher levels of the Specialized Instructor position, certifications and teacher credentials are required and must be on file with Human Resources at the time of application

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • The employee is required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel, use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms for the duration of their shift; occasionally may be required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
