Status: Full time, permanent, in person (Chicago, IL)

Payment: $80,000 - $90,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Founded in 1998, Latinos Progresando is a nonprofit organization that elevates the well-being of the Mexican community. Latinos Progresando provides quality, affordable immigration legal services, reaching families from more than 60 countries worldwide. Additionally, the organization leads a 60-organization coalition called the Marshall Square Resource Network, offers arts and cultural programming, and provides scholarship funding to students from immigrant families.

Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, the Senior Director of Communications will amplify Latinos Progresando’s impact through a comprehensive communications strategy. The Senior Director of Communications will be collaborative, energetic, and analytical, able to conceptualize and deliver compelling messaging to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the executive team to develop and implement the organization’s marketing and communications strategy.
  • Provide strategic input and guidance on communications efforts across departments, and ensure staff and board members are aligned with organizational goals and key messages.
  • Provide direction and oversight, including department/project strategy, work plans and product, workflow, time and performance management.
  • Implement systems to support staff in carrying out strategic vision and goals, including data management.
  • Provide staff feedback, mentoring, guidance, supervision and professional development.
  • Manage the work of external consultants, including graphic designers, photographers, videographers, and other contractors, as needed.
  • Manage the marketing and communications budget, ensuring efficient use of resources to meet objectives.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of marketing and communications strategies, adjusting approaches as needed to optimize impact.
  • Evaluate and recommend tools, software, and platforms that improve efficiency and effectiveness in communications efforts.
Content Creation & Brand Management
  • Serve as principal copy writer and editor for external communications.
  • Ensure consistent and clear messaging across all communications platforms, reinforcing the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the organization's brand identity and visual assets, ensuring that all materials reflect the brand’s voice and style.
  • Manage the creation of compelling content for a variety of platforms, including social media, websites, email campaigns, press releases, and fundraising materials.
  • Develop donor-focused communications, including impact reports, thank-you letters, and stewardship materials to foster ongoing relationships with supporters.
  • Stay up to date with digital marketing trends and tools to keep the organization’s digital presence innovative and effective.
  • Collaborate with program teams to highlight the impact of the organization’s work through storytelling, case studies, and testimonials.
Media Relations
  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to secure positive coverage and raise awareness of the organization’s work.
  • Write and distribute press releases, media kits, and pitches to generate media interest.
  • Prepare spokespeople (including the CEO and other staff) for media interviews and public appearances.
  • Serve as organization representative at external meetings, events, and media interviews, as required.

Responsibilities may also include other duties, as assigned.

Requirements
  • Meaningful experience in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism or related field with a proven track record
  • Exemplary writing, editing and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with digital marketing tools
  • Ability to oversee content creation (design, photography, videography, etc)
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage multiple, diverse stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc), Google Drive, CRMs, experience with Salesforce a plus
