Job description

Job Purpose:

BTIG is seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Database Administrator to design, deliver, and maintain a robust, high-performance database infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, optimization, and security of PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MongoDB, Redis, ClickHouse, and KDB+ databases supporting critical internal applications and trading systems.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Database Administration & Optimization

  • Manage and maintain  SQL Server and Postgres environments, including backups and restores using Rubrik, space management, capacity planning, and archiving.
  • Proactively optimize database performance, including analyzing query execution plans, tuning SQL queries, and optimizing indexes.
  • Manage database schema migrations using golang-migrate and CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins).
  • Use RedgatepgAdmin, for database DevOps, administration, and cross-platform management.
  • Execute seamless database upgrades and migrations across all supported versions.
  • Evaluate and deploy CloudNativePG for Kubernetes-native PostgreSQL deployments on Kubernetes.

Monitoring & Observability

  • Build and maintain database monitoring dashboards and alerts using Prometheus and Grafana.
  • Integrate database health metrics with existing LogicMonitor infrastructure monitoring.
  • Set up proactive measures to maintain database health, performance, and availability across all environments.

Security & Governance

  • Implement and enforce standard security parameters, including rigorous access controls and restrictions on individual logins, to protect company data and ensure compliance with financial regulatory requirements.
  • Manage database credentials and secrets rotation through HashiCorp Vault and LastPass.
  • Ensure database backup policies meet regulatory retention and disaster recovery requirements using Rubrik.

Collaboration & Automation

  • Partner closely with application developers to configure connectors and optimize database interactions across Linux and Windows environments.
  • Administer and optimize ActiveBatch workload automation, including maintaining its SQL Server backend and scheduling database maintenance jobs.
  • Build and manage data orchestration workflows in Apache Airflow for database ETL, maintenance, and pipeline scheduling.
  • Support Redpanda (Kafka-compatible) streaming data pipelines that connect to database systems.
  • Leverage a DevOps mindset to script, automate, and create self-service tools for routine DBA tasks using CI/CD platforms (JenkinsGitHub).

Requirements & Qualifications:

Technical Expertise

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in database administration and architecture in a clustered environment.
  • Deep, hands-on expertise with SQL Server (all versions) and PostgreSQL, with experience running PostgreSQL on Kubernetes (e.g., CloudNativePG).
  • Strong practical experience with MongoDBRedis, and ClickHouse. Familiarity with KDB+ a plus.
  • Proficiency with TerraformAnsible, and Helm for database infrastructure provisioning.
  • Experience with GitOps workflows (Flux, GitHub Actions, Jenkins) for database deployment automation.
  • Familiarity with Prometheus and Grafana for database observability.
  • Experience with enterprise backup and recovery platforms (Rubrik) for database protection, point-in-time recovery, and compliance retention policies.
  • Experience with enterprise workload automation platforms (ActiveBatchApache Airflow), including managing their underlying database dependencies.
  • Thorough understanding of underlying database technologies, architecture, and emerging industry trends.

Compensation: 

  • BTIG offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. Salary range is based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, years of applicable experience, skills, qualifications, licensure and certifications, and other business and organization needs.
  • The current estimated base salary range for this role is $180,000.00 - $225,000.00 per year. Please note that certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as discretionary bonus or overtime.
