Position:

We are currently seeking a 1st shift Laser Operator at our South Chesterfield, VA location. As a Laser Operator, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining a laser cutting machine to produce high-quality metal parts or components according to specifications. In this role, you will be involved in setting up the machine, selecting the accurate program, and monitoring the process to ensure that the safety standards and specifications of the product are met.

  • Set up and prepare the laser cutting machine for production runs, including loading materials, and selecting the correct program
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime
  • Inspect finished parts for accuracy using precision measuring tools and equipment
  • Conduct quality checks throughout the production process to identify and address any defects or discrepancies to production quality
  • Follow safety protocols and wear prescribed personal protective (PPE) equipment to prevent injuries
  • Utilize hand, power, and pneumatic tools to complete run
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on the laser cutting machine, and troubleshoot technical issues to prevent breakdowns
  • Operate lifting devices, such as cranes or vacuum lifts, to move material
  • Read and understand blueprints, interpret laser programs and work instructions, job routings,
  • Follow established fabrication procedures and standards.
  • Give feedback on programming or setup changes.
  • Proper deburring of parts
  • Modify tools as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/ Experience & Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma plus 5 years of experience in a machine shop environment is required. However, a combination of education and experience will be taken into consideration.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong ability to multi-task, prioritize, and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Applicants must have exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills and the ability to think independently.
  • High awareness of client satisfaction level and client needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate speed and feed values for various materials.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and tolerances.
  • Applicants must possess the ability to use measuring instruments such as outside micrometers, bore micrometers, height and bore gauges, calipers, gauge pins, and indicators.
  • Ability to determine the sequence of operations to efficiently manufacture parts from start to finish.
  • Must possess an understanding of basic machine implements- keys, threads, bearing fit and bushings as well as basic geometry.
  • High result orientation and cost sensitivity.
