Job description

Job Title: Civil Drafter
Location: Gulf Coast, Alabama

Overview

Purpose:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Civil Drafter to join our growing civil engineering and land surveying team. This full-time position will support a variety of civil engineering, land development, and surveying projects throughout the Gulf Coast area.

The Civil Drafter will work closely with engineers, surveyors, project managers, and other members of the project team to develop accurate technical drawings, plans, and project documentation. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to a wide range of projects while developing technical skills in a collaborative professional environment.

Civil Land Survey Drafters of any experience level are encouraged to apply. Candidates with less than three years of experience are encouraged to have an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, Drafting, Geomatics, or a related field.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Develop detailed 2D and 3D drawings and plans for civil engineering and land surveying projects.
  • Prepare grading, site, utility, roadway, drainage, and other civil design drawings as directed.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and Civil 3D to prepare and modify civil engineering and survey drawings.
  • Work closely with engineers and surveyors to incorporate field data, engineering designs, and project requirements into construction documents.
  • Review survey information, plans, specifications, plats, and other technical documents to support drafting activities.
  • Create layouts, details, schematics, and technical drawings in accordance with project specifications and applicable standards.
  • Review and revise drawings based on feedback from engineers, surveyors, project managers, clients, and other project stakeholders.
  • Assist with preparation of construction plans, exhibits, project documentation, and related deliverables.
  • Maintain organized electronic files, drawing sets, revisions, and project documentation.
  • Participate in project meetings and communicate design changes, drafting updates, and project requirements with the project team.
  • Coordinate drafting and design information between civil engineering and land surveying teams.
  • Perform quality-control reviews of drawings to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Support multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
  • Complete additional drafting and project responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

What You Will Bring

Technical and Industry Experience:

  • Experience in civil drafting, land surveying drafting, engineering drafting, or a related field is preferred, but candidates of all experience levels are encouraged to apply.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Civil 3D.
  • Familiarity with MicroStation, Revit, SolidWorks, Navisworks, or other CAD/design software is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of CAD principles, drafting practices, and technical drawing standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans, survey drawings, construction documents, specifications, and related technical information.
  • Familiarity with civil engineering and land surveying concepts is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality drawings.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet project deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, surveyors, project managers, and other team members.
  • Experience with 2D animation or related visualization tools is a plus.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

  • Demonstrated ability or willingness to develop proficiency in civil drafting and CAD software.
  • Ability to work effectively in a professional engineering environment.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred:

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Surveying, Geomatics, Drafting, or a closely related field, particularly for candidates with less than three years of professional experience.
  • Previous experience as a Civil Drafter, Survey Drafter, Engineering Drafter, or in a related position.
  • Experience with Civil 3D and civil engineering plan production.
  • Experience supporting land development, civil engineering, or land surveying projects.
