Job Description

This role offers an opportunity for an emerging civil engineer to contribute to a variety of land development projects in the North Raleigh area, including parks and recreation facilities, single-family residential communities, corporate campuses, and mixed-use commercial developments. You will perform engineering design and analysis, prepare construction documents, and support projects from initial concept through construction. • Assist in preparing complete project construction documents, including construction drawings, specifications, details, and calculation submittals when required.
  • Develop site plans that may include site layout, utilities, grading, drainage, erosion control, and stormwater management components.
  • Coordinate closely with project team members such as architects, structural engineers, MEP engineers, contractors, owners, and internal team members to ensure cohesive and accurate project delivery.
  • Support construction administration activities by reviewing project shop drawings, responding to contractor requests for information (RFIs), and addressing questions that arise during project construction.
  • Perform site inspections during construction to verify that work complies with design intent and project documents.
  • Conduct site visits and client interviews to gather field information and project requirements necessary for effective project design.
  • Use Microsoft Office and civil design software such as Civil 3D, Carlson, or MicroStation to produce and manage design documents and calculations.
  • Collaborate with internal team members and clients, maintaining open lines of communication to ensure project expectations, schedules, and deliverables are clearly understood and met.
  • Engage with clients in a professional and responsive manner to support long-term relationships and client satisfaction.

Essential Skills

  • Eligibility and intent to obtain a Professional Engineering license within approximately 2 years is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of civil engineering design experience in a civil/site or stormwater-focused role.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing site plans, including site layout, utilities, grading, drainage, erosion control, and stormwater management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications for documentation, reporting, and communication.
  • Experience with Civil 3D, Carlson, or MicroStation software for civil design and drafting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability and desire to collaborate closely with team members and clients.
  • Willingness to engage directly with clients to maintain open communication and ensure client satisfaction.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with GIS applications is a plus.
  • Familiarity with StormCAD or other drainage and stormwater modeling software is beneficial.
  • Experience or exposure to stormwater design, stormwater management design, and erosion control is advantageous.
  • Experience in land development, site development, and civil site design projects.
  • Exposure to project management activities within civil engineering or land development projects.
  • Ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, structural engineers, MEP engineers, and contractors.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in preparing construction documents and calculations.
