The Office of the CTO is where innovation takes center stage. We inspire our global technical community to take on grand challenges, understand emerging trends, identify the critical inflections, and drive our sustainability, Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices that will define the next generation of semiconductors and continued impact.
The impact you'll make
Searching for talented and motivated individuals to join the Global Velocity Lab Engineering team at Lam Research. This is a small concept and feasibility (C&F) group of mixed disciplines focused on evaluating and advancing industry disrupting technology to enhance Lam's product portfolio in the next 3-5yrs. Candidates who learn quickly, exhibit strong initiative, innovation, agility, analytical skills, and logical problem solving will excel as a part of this team.
What you'll do
  • Lead small to large scale C&F design projects, including conceptualization, complex
    component and assembly design, analysis, documentation, and test/validation of
    semiconductor chamber hardware to support C&F project deliverables.
  • Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs.
  • Engage key stakeholders effectively with clear communication of objectives, plans, tradeoffs,
    risks, and key decisions.
  • Lead support resources (ex: offshore design drafting, lab technicians, etc) to complete project deliverables.
  • Work with suppliers to source OEM parts and/or ensure in-house designed parts can be
    manufactured in accordance with performance and cost objectives.
  • Utilize system documentation (component/assy specs, drawings, P&IDs, interconnect diagrams, BOMs, etc) and best practices in root cause analysis to troubleshoot issues, and/or retrofit/modify/integrate sub systems for C&F testing as required.
  • Ensures produced documentation is consistent with SEMI, Lam Standards and other standards
    as applicable. (ANSI, DIN etc.)
  • Work with cross functional team members to validate new hardware or system design against
    hardware specifications or expected behavior.
  • Develop test plans, test fixtures, and perform testing to characterize system hardware
    performance and identify opportunities for improvements.
  • Generate FMEA/risk mitigation assessments.
  • Lead/perform failure analysis if/when required.
  • Present detailed designs, test results, and conclusions in design/program/executive reviews.
  • Define, document and communicate installation and operating procedures to engineers with
    variety of technical backgrounds.
  • Hardware/lab-centric on-site flex position. Expect an average of 3 days/wk on site/in-lab withopportunity to work up to 2 days/wk remotely with manager approval as project deliverables allow.
  • Lam aims to provide remote work flexibility to the extent possible but a significant portion of this role will require on-site in-lab presence.

Who we're looking for
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 12+ years of experience; or Master's degree with 8+ years' experience; or equivalent experience
  • Preferred qualifications
  • Systems engineering or similar experience
  • AC and DC power box design
  • Cable harness design, documentation, and fabrication EtherCat communication
  • Controls and PID tuning
  • Safety PLCs
  • Safety interlock systems and components
  • Lasers and optical systems
  • Practical RF engineering design practices such as shielding, power supplies, RF measurements, calibration techniques, filter design, impedance matching, and signal analysis
  • Experience with RF measurement equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, RF power meters, oscilloscopes, etc
  • Experience with instrument control and data acquisition tools/scripting languages like LabView, MATLAB, Python, VB.NET, etc. preferred Etch and Deposition hardware, RF plasma, ALE, and ALD experience preferre
  • Experience with SEMI, IEC, NEMA, and NFPA standards Prior experience working in a C&F/R&D role preferred

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories - On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. 'On-site Flex' you'll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. 'Virtual Flex' you'll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
Salary
CA San Francisco Bay Area Salary Range for this position: $125,000.00 - $270,000.00.
The above salary range for this position is relevant to applicants that reside or work onsite in the California, San Francisco Bay Area only. Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Actual salary may vary from salary offered due to numerous factors including but not limited to unpaid time off, unpaid leave, company mandated shutdown, and other relevant factors.
