Job description

Job Title: Production Helper

Job Description

This role involves operating and tending power shear and trimming equipment to cut paper or paperboard sheets to precise dimensions, while supporting overall production line activities. You will set up and run machines, inspect materials for quality, and complete required documentation to ensure efficient, accurate, and safe production operations.

Responsibilities

  • Read job orders carefully to determine machine settings, cutting dimensions, and production requirements.
  • Set computer-controlled equipment to make required cuts, or manually set the trimmer to achieve the proper cuts when needed.
  • Use the Quick Skan machine to accurately measure paper and confirm that materials meet specified dimensions.
  • Position and align sheets against guides and securely clamp sheets to the bed of the machine prior to cutting.
  • Operate machine controls and press buttons to drive the shear blade through sheets of paper or paperboard.
  • Adjust guides and reposition material to trim or square edges according to specifications and quality standards.
  • Change shear blades as needed to maintain cutting performance and product quality.
  • Develop and maintain strong knowledge of all grades of paper used in the production process.
  • Inspect materials and finished products for quality assurance, ensuring cuts and dimensions meet required tolerances.
  • Set up machines and perform basic machine operation tasks, including adjustments and minor troubleshooting.
  • Tend power shear equipment and oversee other trimmer operations and production line functions as assigned.
  • Perform general labor and assembly tasks to support production flow and meet output goals.
  • Use hand tools safely and correctly during machine setup, adjustment, and maintenance activities.
  • Complete all required paperwork accurately and thoroughly, including production records and quality documentation.
  • Oil and grease machines according to the established lubrication schedule to maintain equipment performance.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of debris to support safety and efficiency.

Work Environment

This position is based in an older warehouse facility with a production setting that includes large pieces of equipment and power shears. The building can become hot during the summer months, so you should be comfortable working in a warm environment and around heavy machinery.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.55 - $26.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
