Job description

General Purpose of Position

The purpose of the General Laborer position is to perform a variety of basic requirements in support of the manufacturing, maintenance and shipping activities.  General Laborers will typically perform less skilled tasks such as pipe plugging (machine operation); manual movement of materials; basic assembly, yard maintenance; snow removal; weed spraying; trash removal and recycling; and simple machine operation.

Essential Functions

  • Must be able to learn; recognize, and perform the unique requirements of each General Laborer assignment.
  • Must be able to use basic hand and power tools correctly.
  • Must be able to run a forklift and secure a forklift license if required.
  • Must be familiar and cognizant of safety guidelines throughout the company.
  • Must maintain a good attendance and punctuality record.
  • Must be able to read and interpret shop orders and other standard operating procedures.
  • Must be able to use and understand various specialized measuring tools and equipment unique to the job i.e. impact wrenches; scales; banders; rod threader;  and general assembly equipment.
  • Must have good communication and interpersonal skills, as they will interact with coworkers, immediate supervisor/foreman; and on occasion other staff personnel.
  • Must be able to work with limited supervision and show/demonstrate initiative, tact, good judgement and sound reasoning.
  • Must be able to handle the physical requirements of the position.
  • Must have neat and legible handwriting.
  • Will perform other related duties as directed by supervision.

Machines, Tools, Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment Used

Depending on assignment may utilize forklift; pickup truck; snow blower; farm tractor; impact wrenches; scales; banders; rod threader; lawn mower; and plugging machine.  Requires use of safety glasses with side shields; safety footwear; hearing protection; respirators/protective clothing (by assignment); and gloves as necessary.
