Job Summary: Oversees all departmental activities of the laboratory to achieve quality, cost effective results. Responsible for supervision of department and shift supervisors.
Minimum Education: Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology or in a related biological/chemical science from an accredited college or university. Master's degree or specialty certification strongly preferred.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Must have passed national certification exam as a laboratory scientist that is accredited by an approved agency.
Work Experience: 2 years lab experience with high complexity testing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated skills in interpersonal relations, delegation and planning. Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, independently and to coordinate activities of others. Effective communication skills and leadership qualities. PC Skills to create documents/reports utilizing word processing, spreadsheet and database computer applications.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Assumes responsibility for the operation of laboratory departments. Operates laboratory departments in a cost-effective manner. Assures quality operation of laboratory departments. Manages personnel and staffing assignments. Evaluates employee performance in a constructive manner, disciplines fairly and recommends compensation or termination to the director. Assists the Laboratory Director with laboratory operations and as needed, act as general supervisor for the laboratory.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions from many diversified alternatives that are subject to general review in final stages only.
Working Relationships: Direct Supervision of others - No. of people supervised: (3) Prepares and gives performance evaluations. Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with external customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at Director level or above.
