WCC is establishing a pool of qualified candidates to be considered when part-time and/or on-call laboratory assistants are needed to assist with credit courses in the Advanced Manufacturing Department. Needs may become available prior to or during each semester.Upon successful submission of your application, resume and transcripts, you will be considered for future part-time and/or on-call laboratory assistant opportunities on a per course basis for the following Mechatronic course prefixes in our current catalog:
  • ELE - Electrical related
  • MEC - Mechatronic / Automation / Fluid Power related
  • NCT - Machine Tool (CNC) related
  • ROB - Robotics / Automation related

Position Summary:
Assist in the supervision and maintenance of department laboratory and monitor and direct students performing laboratory activities.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist in the procurement and maintenance of the department's laboratory test equipment, computers, and software.
• Order and supervise parts inventory as specified by the Department Chair.
• Observe and coach students performing laboratory activities assigned by the department's instructors.
• Observe and coach students for safe working procedures which performing laboratory activities.
• Direct student assistants in the routine duties of maintaining the department's laboratories.
• Maintain an active program of personal professional development.
• Abide by Washtenaw Community College's work practice and rules of conduct.
• Regular attendance on campus is required for this position.
• Utilize technology, including AI-enabled tools and software where appropriate, to support teaching, learning, student engagement, professional responsibilities, institutional service, and other responsibilities. Use such technologies in a manner consistent with academic standards, professional ethics, confidentiality requirements, and compliance with institutional policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.
Hours/Schedule: This position is scheduled to work a maximum of twenty (20) hours per week with varying hours. This department has courses ranging from 45 - 90 contact hours per semester. This equals 4 to 8 hours per week per course depending on course and length of term.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Thirty (30) credit hours of higher education.
• Equivalent of one (1) year related experience.
• Certificate or license as needed when connected to the area where the assistant has responsibility.
• Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility and work enthusiastically with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated understanding and respect for standard laboratory polices, protocol and safety.
• Demonstrated ability to use technology relevant to the discipline and faculty role, including the capacity to learn and appropriately utilize emerging AI-supported tools. Ability to evaluate the accuracy, reliability, and appropriateness of AI-generated content; maintain confidentiality where required; exercise professional and academic judgment; and uphold ethical standards in the use of technology for teaching, learning, and service.
• Available to work day or evening classes.
