Job description

*This position supports customers throughout the Midwest region and candidates located anywhere within the Midwest are encouraged to apply.*

As an Animal Nutrition Client Support & Sales Specialist, you will combine technical sales with hands-on client support for producers, feed mills, nutritionists, and allied-industry partners across the Midwest โ€” one of the most concentrated dairy and animal agriculture regions in the country. This is a dual-track role: part relationship-driven sales, part technical support, working closely with RRL's laboratory and customer service teams to make sure clients get accurate, timely data and real value from RRL's testing and reporting tools. You'll manage a mix of established Page 1 accounts and prospective clients, with a base salary plus performance-based incentive.

About Rock River Laboratory:

Rock River Laboratory is a trusted name in agriculture, serving the industry for 50 years. We are a family-operated company based in Watertown, Wisconsin, committed to innovation, technical excellence, and employee success.

Responsibilities:

Sales & Account Growth

  • Develop a deep understanding of the Midwest customer base and regional market dynamics.
  • Execute sales initiatives to achieve established revenue and territory growth goals.
  • Build and maintain consultative, value-based relationships with producers, feed consultants, and nutritionists.
  • Call on prospective clients across feed mills, nutritionists, and allied industry contacts.
  • Represent Rock River Laboratory at industry conferences and trade association meetings, providing technical insight on animal nutrition to nutritionists and dairy producers.
  • Develop, track, and achieve agreed-upon KPIs in partnership with the Animal Nutrition Sales Director, with a focus on revenue growth, client engagement, and territory development

Field Sales & Relationship Management (Midwest)

  • Connect in person with Page 1 accounts quarterly, reviewing offerings, collecting feedback, and identifying opportunities for sales growth.
  • Visit with sales reps for Page 1 accounts 2โ€“3 times per year to clarify package offerings and gather feedback.
  • Maintain a consistent field presence with prospective seed company, feed mill, and allied-industry accounts, following up with labels and support materials as needed.

Reporting & Systems

  • Assist clients with FeedScan and FeedScan Web, including setting up correct access, adding client data when needed, and running web calls to walk clients through the tools.
  • Pull data into spreadsheets and assist with data summarization and custom reporting packages for clients.
  • Use HubSpot to manage contacts, track opportunities, and monitor lead and lag indicators, including monthly touchpoint volume.
  • Become fluent with RRL's Visualizer suite, Data Explorer, etc.
  • Use ration balancing software and technical presentation materials to support consultative sales conversations.
  • Work closely with sales and marketing leadership to define sales targets and align territory strategy with company objectives.

Culture & Team Expectations:

  • Demonstrate a positive, solution-oriented attitude in every client and team interaction.
  • Treat clients and teammates with professionalism and respect.
  • Be responsive and dependable in following through on commitments.
  • Actively support coworkers during periods of high workload, and share knowledge and best practices with colleagues.
  • Raise concerns constructively and help develop solutions.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and accountability, and represent Rock River Laboratory positively in all internal and external interactions.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Agribusiness, Animal Science, Dairy Science, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on industry experience.
  • 3โ€“5+ years of experience in agricultural sales, animal health/nutrition, or laboratory/technical client support.
  • Working knowledge of dairy production systems and Upper Midwest agriculture; familiarity with feed mills, nutritionists, and allied-industry relationships is a plus.
  • Comfort with CRM tools (HubSpot experience preferred) and core Microsoft Office applications.
  • Willingness to travel within the Midwest approximately two weeks per month, including day trips and occasional overnight stays, plus periodic travel to industry conferences.
  • Experience with ration balancing software and delivering technical presentations to producers or nutritionists is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort managing both relationship-building sales work and detail-oriented technical support tasks.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base salary plus performance-based incentive (details shared during the interview process).
  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
  • IRA savings plan with company match.
  • Short-term disability coverage.
  • Bonus and commission opportunities tied to territory growth.
  • Paid time off and paid holidays.

Why Rock River Laboratory?

Rock River Laboratory offers competitive pay and an engaging culture built around meaningful work, employee success, and a commitment to advancing the agricultural industry. This role is a chance to build deep, lasting relationships across the Midwest's dairy and animal agriculture community while helping producers get more value from RRL's testing, data, and technical expertise.
