Overview
Tanaq Management Services (TMS) delivers professional, scientific, and technical services and information technology (IT) solutions to federal agencies in the health, agriculture, technology, and other government services. TMS is a subsidiary of the St. George Tanaq Corporation, an Alaskan Native Corporation (ANC) committed to serving Federal customers while also giving back to the Tanaq native community and shareholders.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Data Manager III to develop and/or improve upon database management tools for a team of professionals from various backgrounds supporting public health. The ideal candidate will have mastered database management tools and database scripting languages for maintaining, troubleshooting, updating, and developing Microsoft Access databases. This position will involve supporting a variety of laboratory projects, including the development of new vaccines, the study of infectious diseases, molecular epidemiology, and surveillance. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with various agencies and contribute to important research that is making a difference in the fight against disease.
The Laboratory Data Manager III is responsible for the management and analysis of laboratory data for the team. This includes tasks such as standardizing data entry, data cleaning, data analysis, and data visualization processes. The Laboratory Data Manager will also work with the team to develop and implement data management policies and procedures.
This is a hybrid remote position that will require some onsite work in Atlanta, Georgia.
Responsibilities
  • Manage and maintain the team's laboratory data systems.
  • Manage epidemiological and laboratory data by using Analytics Software & Solutions (SAS) as well as other data management software packages (e.g., R, REDCap, Microsoft Access, Excel, EpiInfo).
  • Write SQL queries, produce reports, and provide updates for internal and external collaborators.
  • Enter, clean, and analyze laboratory data.
  • Perform data quality assurance activities, including identifying and resolving any inconsistencies in data flow, data outside legitimate ranges, and illogical data responses by developing data quality reports and investigation and resolution of data anomalies or errors by using a combination of software packages, including SAS, MS Access and Excel, and other software as warranted.
  • Develop and implement data management policies and procedures.
  • Provide assistance to laboratorians on the use of database management tools.
  • Create documentation on data-related tasks or processes.
  • Convert existing datasets from a diverse array of file formats (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Access, SQL, and ASCII files) into SAS datasets. Additionally, manage data stored in a variety of file formats such as SAS datasets, Microsoft Access, Microsoft Excel, SQL, and ASCII files, as well as manipulate and transform data that are stored in a variety of file formats.
  • Work with the team to develop and implement data-driven interventions.
  • Track problem/resolution related to data quality assurance activities by maintaining data-correction logbooks and/or files in order to improve the quality of the data collection/acquisition process.
  • Communicate data findings to the team and project leads.
  • Provide a weekly project update to SME/project leads.

Requirements
Required Skills and Experience
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in laboratory data management.
  • Minimum 3-5 years laboratory experience with general laboratory operations and methods.
  • Experience with molecular epidemiology and surveillance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess resources, skills, and materials to support the following data management lifecycle activities: execute the coordination of data entry processes, create data entry forms in software packages such as Microsoft Access, REDCap, and EpiInfo, and perform data entry as required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel required.
  • Experience writing project reports, research protocols, and manuscripts, with the ability to synthesize new research ideas for project research preferred.
  • Experience working at CDC or in a public health setting preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective organization skills.
  • Ability to obtain necessary immunizations, including Hepatitis B, among others.
  • Ability to obtain a government clearance.

Education and Training
  • Master's degree in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field.

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • May need to lift 25 pounds regularly.
