Job description

Job Title: Lab Director (Clinical Laboratory) | Permanent

Location: Junction, Texas

Schedule: Monday–Friday (7:00 AM–3:00 PM or 8:00 AM–5:00 PM; flexibility required) + rotating weekend on-call

Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time

Salary: Starting at $80,000 per annum


Position Overview

A rural acute-care hospital is seeking a hands-on Lab Director to lead daily laboratory operations while actively performing bench work. This is a working manager role ideal for a leader who balances administrative oversight with technical expertise. The Lab Director will supervise a small team and ensure high standards in quality, compliance, and patient testing services—especially within Blood Bank.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and operational oversight of the Clinical Laboratory
  • Perform routine MT/MLT bench duties as needed (Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, and Blood Bank)
  • Supervise and support 3 full-time techs and 1 PRN
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, TJC, and state regulations
  • Manage quality assurance, proficiency testing, and policy/procedure updates
  • Oversee staffing schedules, training, competency assessments, and performance management
  • Maintain inventory, equipment maintenance, and vendor coordination
  • Participate in rotating weekend on-call coverage
  • Collaborate with medical staff and hospital leadership to ensure efficient lab services

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science or related field
  • MT/MLS (ASCP) or equivalent certification
  • Prior laboratory leadership/supervisory experience
  • Strong hands-on experience in Blood Bank
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance: CLIA, CAP, TJC
  • Ability to work both administratively and technically in the lab

Preferred

  • Previous experience in a rural or small hospital setting
  • Experience managing small lab teams
