Job description

JOB SUMMARY:
The Medical Laboratory Information Specialist ensures the laboratory software and data workflows match strict clinical standards.  They test system updates, monitor data accuracy, audit test results and maintain compliance.  Responsible for updating the procedure manuals, quality control, inventory, and maintenance programs in the laboratory. The System Specialist reviews, refines, and modifies established techniques to produce more accurate qualitative and quantitative analyses. Must be able to work independently.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Never convicted of a criminal offense related to health care.
  • Not listed by a federal agency as debarred, excluded or otherwise ineligible for participation in federally funded health care programs.
  • Registered Medical Technologist through ASCP or similar certifying agency recognized by CMS; or registry eligible and meets the requirement to pass a national certification test within two years of accepting the position of lead medical technologist.
  • Two to five years working in a clinical laboratory environment with hands on experience using and LIS.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to work without direct supervision.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Acts as a liaison between the laboratory and IT department.
  • Ability to speak clearly and distinctly with staff, physicians, patients, and fellow employees.
  • Must be able to use the telephone to communicate with clients in a clear and precise manner.
  • Must have adequate perception of sounds or adequate hearing with corrections.
  • Must have audio ability to communicate with staff, physicians, patients, and fellow employees. Audio abilities must enable employee to hear the operation of technical equipment for safety reasons.
  • Lifting and moving of small technical equipment is required.
  • Motor skills must allow for performing duties of faxing, copying, typing, and filing of laboratory information.
  • Adequate vision, or correctable with glasses/contacts, to read test results in a clear and concise manner. Color blindness would be evaluated as to degree of inhibition in performing tests assigned.
  • Motor skills must allow safe handling of chemicals according to OSHA guidelines.
