JOB SUMMARY
Under administrative supervision, assumes supervisory responsibility for production activities in a diversified research/clinical laboratory setting. Provides direct supervision and guidance to assigned personnel.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Biological or Physical Science with four years of related clinical/research experience; Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, ASCP registered, and three years laboratory experience; or Master's degree in Biology or Physical Science with two years laboratory experience required.
  • One-year supervisory experience in laboratory setting applicable to the position.
  • Advanced training in specialized techniques and basic research activities involving particulars of the laboratory to be served.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Supervises the work of laboratory personnel engaged in performing routine and specialized technical procedures, including planning laboratory work, evaluating work performed, reviewing typical work situations and handling procedural or technical laboratory problems.
  2. Prepares technical reports reflecting volume of work, procedures utilized and test results.
  3. Coordinates the preparation of reports and analyses setting forth progress and/or adverse trends.
  4. Performs a variety of complex and independent activities involved in the collection, analysis, documentation and interpretation of laboratory data.
  5. Coordinates and participates in specialized laboratory procedures requiring advanced skill and theoretical knowledge.
  6. Instructs other personnel in laboratory methods and procedures.
  7. Reviews newly developed testing methods and procedures, refines procedures for laboratory application, sets up laboratory equipment, and standardizes laboratory solutions and reagents.
  8. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
