QA Specification & Regulatory Labeling Specialist

Purpose and Scope/General Summary: The Specification and Regulatory Labeling Specialist manages and maintains product specifications, product labels, label approvals, and customer information requests. The position provides technical expertise and regulatory oversight to ensure all USDA-regulated meat products meet Federal labeling requirements, customer specifications, and internal standards. This role supports R&D, FSQA, and Operations by managing compliance-related labeling tasks throughout the product lifecycle and ensuring timely, accurate delivery of product information and documentation.

Our ideal candidate will sit in one of our Pork facilities (IL, MN, KY, IA) or at the Corporate Office (Greeley, CO)

Responsibilities:

  • Create, maintain and improve product specifications in the SAP PLM system.
  • Set up and maintain product labels in the Shop Floor system so that they run accurately and in accordance with SAP active product code status.
  • Continuously review and execute improvements to the change management, specification, and label approval process.
  • Responding to customer information inquiries/requests.
  • Assist with training team members on optimal use of these systems and processes as needed.
  • Interpret and apply USDA FSIS regulations to ensure compliant labeling for all meat products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Marketing, Nutrition, QA, R&D, Insights/Innovation) to support product development and market readiness.
  • Monitor regulatory updates and assess impacts on products, claims, and labeling requirements.
  • Research and interpret regulations to address internal and external customer inquiries.
  • Review specifications, BOMs, ingredient documents, allergen statements, nutrition data, and customer graphics to ensure regulatory and company compliance.
  • Create, review, and approve ingredient statements, allergen declarations, Nutrition Facts Panels, claims, and standards of identity.
  • Prepare and review documentation required for USDA and other regulatory or certification agencies.
  • Review and validate artwork, packaging, and product specifications for regulatory accuracy.
  • Review and validate claims such as NAE, Organic, Halal, Gluten Free, AMS, Non-GMO, Child Nutrition, and animal-raising claims.
  • Communicate with external vendors (label suppliers, label printers, USDA consultants, ingredient suppliers, co-manufacturers).
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency across specifications, USDA label submissions/approvals, and ingredient documentation
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in a food industry-based program (Animal Science, Food Systems, Nutrition, etc.) or related discipline preferred.
  • Related professional experience within food industry or packaging and labeling experience required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and SAP preferred.
  • Knowledge of USDA and/or FDA standards preferred.
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and external vendors / customers.
  • Capacity to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.
  • Able to travel up to 20%
  • Knowledge and understanding of sound data management
  • Experience in a plant environment, preferably in the pork industry

The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits:

  • Benefits: Vision, Medical, and Dental coverage begin after 60 days of employment;
  • Paid Time Off: sick leave, vacation, and 6 company observed holidays;
  • 401(k): company match begins after the first year of service and follows the company vesting schedule;
  • Base salary range of $58,000-$68,000
  • Incentive Pay: This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan, the amount of bonus varies and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program; and
