Job description

Research & Development Lab Engineer

If you enjoy working hands-on with cutting-edge technology, solving complex infrastructure challenges, and being the go-to expert in a fast-paced lab environment, this could be a great next step in your career.

This position will help support and scale a growing lab environment focused on emerging technologies across server, storage, networking, cloud, and edge solutions. It's ideal for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, organizing, and continuously improving technical environments while collaborating with teams across the business.

You'll have the opportunity to work with new technologies, contribute to important product introduction projects, and play a key role in keeping the lab operating efficiently and safely. You'll also become a trusted resource for employees, customers, and partners visiting the lab.

This is a highly collaborative environment with a strong "one team" mentality where people step in to help each other succeed. At the same time, this role requires someone who is comfortable working independently, communicating proactively, and asking for support when needed.

What you'll be doing:

  • Maintain and support the Cleveland R&D lab environment, including server, storage, networking, virtualization, and cloud technologies
  • Receive, install, rack, stack, cable, configure, and track lab equipment and infrastructure
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) projects and help prepare technologies for internal support teams
  • Configure systems for remote access and ensure devices are properly networked and accessible
  • Monitor lab safety, environmental standards, power usage, and equipment organization
  • Maintain documentation for lab equipment, processes, remote monitoring tools, and configurations
  • Assist with hardware upgrades, component replacements, firmware/microcode management, and system reconfiguration
  • Help optimize lab space and infrastructure to support future growth and scalability
  • Partner with engineering, support, and leadership teams on lab deployments and technical initiatives
  • Provide occasional support for Level 3 technical troubleshooting as needed
  • Give tours of the lab to employees, customers, and partners
  • Participate in occasional travel for partner training opportunities related to cooling technologies and emerging solutions
  • Support periodic high-volume project bursts where multiple new technologies are deployed and configured simultaneously
  • Follow established safety procedures related to electrical systems, cooling systems, lifting equipment, and lab operations
  • Communicate proactively with leadership and team members, especially when priorities become complex or workloads increase

What we're looking for:

  • Experience working in a data center, lab environment, or managing enterprise infrastructure
  • Hands-on experience with server, storage, and networking hardware
  • Understanding of virtualization technologies such as VMware, HCI, and GPU-based environments
  • Familiarity with configuring hardware, remote access tools, IP addressing, and infrastructure setup
  • Knowledge of electrical fundamentals, including power distribution, voltage requirements, and cabling best practices
  • Mechanical aptitude, including experience working with lifting equipment, server lifts, or cooling-related systems
  • Strong troubleshooting and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Comfortable working independently while staying connected with remote leadership and teammates
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to ask questions or seek support when needed
  • Ability to support occasional on-call situations for urgent lab needs
  • Experience documenting processes, equipment, and configurations preferred
  • Curiosity and interest in learning emerging technologies and lab best practices

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

    Bonus Points:

    • Manufacturer or standards certification preferred.

    Travel:

    • 20%
