Title: R&D/TS&D Technician

Location: Auburn, MI


About You:

You will provide technical support to Lead Scientists and Technologist Leaders in the preparation and execution of experimental activities and studies. You will act as primary focal point for technical support of a process, program, product, or application within the work group and occasionally for internal/external clients and customers. You will provide technical support for application development and technical service.

You will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Perform several routine and experimental procedures in the lab to develop and improve upon new and existing products. This includes, but is not limited to lab mixer mixing, utilizing presses to cure elastomer slabs, physical property testing, etc.

• Adhesion, strength, and general property characterization of products using ASTM methodology.

• Prepare samples and perform testing for sealants, adhesives, or coatings.

• Interpret and execute customer methods for testing and prepare data for presentation.

• Handle non-hazardous/hazardous chemicals and materials in a proper procedural way.

• Accurately and precisely weigh samples and follow step-by-step procedures to make cured samples and test them.

• Test samples in non-volatile/volatile liquids.

• Take and maintain inventory (lab and office supplies) and purchase needed supplies.

• Assist with safety systems and procedures related to lab activities.

• Check and keep up with Learning courses (online).

• Down-package materials/samples and ship out materials/samples to customers.

• Coordinate sample shipping to customers or other R&D groups within the company to support projects. Enter RSMP/sample labels/sample shipping.

• Record test results into Excel, Electronic Lab Notebook, and maintain appropriate documentation.

There is no relocation assistance for this position. This includes reimbursement for travel expenses incurred to and from test sessions/interviews. If you apply for a position that is not within the area in which you reside, you will be responsible for all costs that you incur.

Your Required Qualifications:

• An associate degree or higher in, Chemistry, Biology, or other science related degree or

• Military Degree Equivalency (MDE) and 1 year of relevant work experience or

• Post secondary education with a minimum of 20 hrs. in science related courses + relative work experience or

• High school diploma GED and 3 years of relevant work experience.

• A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Your Preferred Qualifications:

• Associates Degree + relevant work experience

• Physical testing experience such as tensile strength, adhesion, durometer, and specific gravity

• Testing experience with sealants, adhesives, or coatings.

• Experience using dispense or mixing equipment

• Proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

• Exposure to commercial construction.
