Position Summary
The Laboratory Technician II will support the Viral Technology Flu Support Laboratory within a process development environment. This role is primarily hands-on (approximately 80% lab-based) and focuses on executing experimental process operations, supporting biopharmaceutical development activities, and ensuring accurate documentation in a regulated laboratory setting.
The technician will be trained on core unit operations and expected to independently execute assigned experiments with minimal supervision following training.
Key
ResponsibilitiesProcess Development & Laboratory Execution
Perform technical process operations for developmental lots in a biopharmaceutical lab environment
Execute core unit operations including tangential flow filtration (TFF), centrifugation (batch and continuous), virus inoculation and propagation, and sterile filtration
Support cell culture and virus-related experimental workflows as required
Sample Handling, Preparation & Lab Operations
Prepare solutions and buffers according to established protocols
Perform equipment cleaning, assembly, sterilization, and maintenance activities
Conduct sample login, transfer, tracking, and documentation of results
Maintain laboratory inventory and support general lab housekeeping and operational readiness
Documentation, Quality & Compliance
Ensure all documentation is completed accurately, timely, and in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
Identify and escalate production or process issues to laboratory leadership
Participate in safety meetings and report incidents, near misses, and compliance concerns
Follow all safety protocols including use of NIOSH/CSSE respirators and required safety procedures
Collaboration & Process Support
Work collaboratively within cross-functional teams to support process execution and troubleshooting
Communicate effectively with laboratory leadership regarding experimental progress and operational issues
Support continuous improvement of laboratory processes and operational efficiency
Required Qualifications
Bachelorโs degree in Chemistry, Life Sciences, or related scientific discipline OR equivalent combination of education and experience
3โ6 years of relevant laboratory or biopharmaceutical experience
Hands-on experience with bioprocessing or lab-scale operations such as:
Tangential flow filtration (TFF)
Batch and continuous centrifugation
Virus inoculation and propagation
Sterile filtration
Experience with solution and buffer preparation, equipment sterilization, and sample handling
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (2010 or higher)
Ability to work independently after training in a fast-paced lab environment
Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
Flexibility and initiative in a dynamic laboratory setting
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in biopharmaceuticals, vaccine development, or process development environments
Exposure to assay testing methodologies
Experience with High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
Familiarity with laboratory-scale production systems and process development workflows

Work Environment & Conditions
Fully onsite laboratory role
Standard hours: 7:00 AM โ 3:30 PM (with potential overtime or off-shift work as needed)
Must be willing to relocate at own expense
Influenza vaccination required (most recent)
NIOSH/CSSE respirator use required; lung function test required prior to placement

Temp assignment with potential 1-year extension based on performance
Approximately 80% hands-on laboratory work and 20% documentation
Pay Details: $34.00 to $39.00 per hour
