We're looking for a dedicated Medical Laboratory Scientist Sr to Performs clinical laboratory tests to support patient care. Utilizes a variety of molecular techniques, instrumentation, and disciplines related to NGS and other molecular procedures. Participates in, and maintains laboratory quality control, quality management and assurance. Develops and trains junior clinical laboratory scientists, as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accurately performs DNA/RNA extractions and DNA sequencing for detecting genetic disorders/gene rearrangement, MSI,and all other molecular diagnostic procedures in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Performs a variety of laboratory techniques and utilizes analytic instrumentation, such as next genetic sequencing, extraction, and fragment analysis.
  • Participates in evaluation of new laboratory processes and validation of these procedures.
  • Adheres to industry and government standards regarding safe handling of biohazardous and other hazardous materials.
  • Adheres to Clinical Laboratory regulations including CAP, CLIA, state and other regulatory agencies.
  • Performs calibration and maintenance of analytical instrumentation.
  • Maintains laboratory records, archives, assay protocols and sample or specimen repository sufficient to pass regulatory oversight including CAP.
  • Trains subordinate clinical laboratory scientists and laboratory associates.
  • Correlates and understands the theory of Gene testing procedures. Performs the duties of the senior tech and or is responsible for running the section when required to do in absence of Laboratory Manager/Director.
  • Works with the Lab Manager/Director in preparing the section for accreditation inspections.
  • Works with the Lab Manager/Director to document competencies within the section.
  • Documents all Quality Control procedures performed and document corrective action when QC is out of range.
  • Performs advanced troubleshooting of complex instruments within the section.
  • Maintains complete and accurate records, i.e., instrument worksheets and maintenance sheets.
  • Calibrates (PQ/OQ) and standardizes all instrumentation according to sectional guidelines.
  • Maintains an adequate level of supplies. Performs inventory control and ordering as needed.
  • Checks and standardizes reagents.
  • Performs all systems functions necessary to achieve the timely reporting of results.
  • Identifies, serves, and delivers care to our patients that are specific to those needs.
  • Answers phones in a courteous, professional manner and direct them to the appropriate party for assistance.
  • Adheres to the standards identified in the Organizational Competencies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in natural sciences field
  • License: ASCP preferred
  • 2-5 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
