Essential Functions
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
Physical Effort
We are seeking an energetic, hardworking, individual, to fill a Research Technician position in the laboratory of Omar Gharbawie (Department of Neurobiology at University of Pittsburgh). The lab conducts research on non-human primates to understand how the brain controls movement. The successful candidate will have broad responsibilities including:
โ€ข Behavioral training and testing in monkeys. Maintain animal well-being. Work closely with attending veterinarian to formulate and execute treatment plans. Assist with experiments in awake and anesthetized animals. Prepare and assist with sterile surgery. Intubate, place IV catheters, and maintain subjects under anesthesia. Maintain animal records. Order supplies and manage lab inventory. Manage IACUC protocol and take steps to ensure that lab remains in compliance. Train new lab members on best practices. Assist with lab maintenance and cleaning.
