Description
JOB SUMMARY: Gustavus Adolphus College is seeking a part-time Animal Facility & Lab Coordinator to support our behavioral science research and teaching mission. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys a mix of hands-on animal care, regulatory compliance, and laboratory organization in a focused, small-college environment.
Employment Type: Part-time (.25 FTE), Non-exempt (Hourly), Non-Benefits Eligible
Pay Range: $18.50 - $22.00 per hour
Schedule: 10 hours/week, 52 weeks/year; d ue to the nature of animal care, a consistent daily presence including brief check-ins on weekends is required.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Animal Husbandry: Provide daily care, feeding, health monitoring, and breeding for rodents according to established protocols.
  • Facility Maintenance: Keep housing areas clean and ensure all facility safety equipment (e.g., eyewash stations) is compliant.
  • Lab Operations: Set up and clean up psychology teaching labs, manage supply orders, and coordinate hazardous waste disposal.
  • Student Supervision: Oversee a small team of student workers, managing their training and weekly schedules.

Prerequisites
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Expertise: Experience handling and/or caring for small animals. Familiarity with behavioral science research preferred.
  • Judgment: Ability to work independently, assess animal health, and communicate effectively with researchers.
  • Commitment: Must be able to perform essential feeding and watering duties on weekends and holidays.
  • Compliance Mindset: Strong organizational skills for maintaining standard operating procedures and training logs.
