About Us
TAE Power Solutions (TPS) is the electrification spin-off from TAE Technologies, a leader in nuclear fusion technology. The company is leveraging unique power management technology originally developed for nuclear fusion and applying it in adjacent industries including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and DC Fast Charging for electric vehicles.
About the Role
The Certification and Compliance Manager leads UL certification execution and internal compliance frameworks for TPS products. Compliance includes safety and regulatory requirements as well as cybersecurity compliance requirements and CSR expectations. This role works closely with System Integration and Controls teams to ensure releases align with certification assumptions and compliance requirements. The ideal candidate has deep experience executing UL certifications for stationary BESS using LFP and NMC technologies.
Certify TPS products to UL and associated standards
  • Lead certification of TPS products to UL 9540 and UL 9540A, including defining scope, managing readiness, executing testing, and securing certification outcomes
  • Ensure UL 1973 evidence and coordination are complete and aligned with system level certification needs
  • Ensure compliance alignment with associated codes and standards such as NFPA 855, NFPA 67, and NFPA 68, including required documentation packages and safety rationale
  • Own ongoing certification maintenance as TPS designs, configurations, and suppliers evolve
  • Lead redesign and retest cycles required to achieve UL compliance, including gap analysis, test failure review, corrective action planning, and coordination of retest execution to secure certification outcomes

UL certification execution management
  • Own certification plans for TPS products, including scope, schedule, budget, and readiness criteria
  • Lead certification execution with the NRTL
  • Drive cross functional readiness for testing, including documentation, configurations, and test article readiness
  • Manage certification impacts from design changes and deviations

Compliance frameworks and test readiness
  • Build internal compliance frameworks for test planning, evidence capture, and documentation control
  • Define readiness gates for certification deliverables and release validation
  • Maintain traceable certification evidence to support audits and certification maintenance

Lab compliance for test process and equipment
  • Ensure lab test processes, procedures, and test equipment meet applicable UL requirements and CSR expectations for testing and evidence quality
  • Define lab compliance checklists for test setup, calibration, data integrity, and documentation control
  • Coordinate corrective actions for lab process or equipment gaps that could impact certification outcomes or customer compliance requirements

Cyber security compliance requirements
  • Define and maintain cyber security compliance requirements and CSR expectations applicable to TPS products, in coordination with Controls and System Integration
  • Provide CSR requirement inputs and compliance evidence expectations for releases and customer requirements, without owning controls architecture design decisions
  • Track cyber security compliance gaps to closure through release readiness gates and documentation reviews
  • Coordinate required cyber security compliance documentation and evidence for customer and project needs

Standards ownership and communication
  • Maintain a clear map of applicable UL standards and revision impacts for TPS products and configurations
  • Own technical coordination with the NRTL and relevant vendors for compliance evidence
  • Support AHJ discussions on BESS safety as needed, providing compliance evidence and certification status, while Project Engineering leads the external engagement
  • Provide concise status updates on certification and compliance progress, risks, decisions needed, and forecast to milestones

Qualifications, Functional Experience & Skills
Required
  • 5+ years hands on experience executing UL 9540 and UL 9540A certification programs for stationary BESS
  • Extensive hands on experience leading redesign and retesting cycles to resolve UL test failures and achieve certification approval for stationary BESS in large utility scale projects
  • Extensive working knowledge of UL 9540, UL 9540A, UL 1973, NFPA 855, NFPA 67, and NFPA 68, including how these standards drive test scope, documentation, and design constraints
  • Demonstrated ability to drive test readiness across engineering teams and coordinate with an NRTL
  • Experience building compliance processes for documentation control and evidence management
  • Working knowledge of cyber security compliance requirements and CSR expectations for industrial control or energy systems
  • Strong quality mindset with experience driving non-conformance closure and corrective actions
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead cross functional alignment

Preferred
  • Experience supporting lab validation teams with concept design and embedded systems programming support for test enablement
